Maple Syrup?

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

Maple Syrup?

Post by westcoastbluenoser »

I'm thinking of using a tried and true rum recipe, but replacing the molases with pure organic maple syrup. I'm Canadian so it seems worth a shot. Anyone else ever used it as a sugar source in a wash?

I had three gallons of pure maple syrup I distilled it. It tastes good but man it took a long time and isn't that great.

I have not but the guy I work for is producing a maple syrup spirit made from fermented maple syrup.

Smells like pancakes with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. The maple come through the aroma really nice. But it tastes more like a dark rum with cinnamon and vanilla as the major flavor, but there is a hint of maple.

The spirit is not sweetened with maple or anything else. Just diluted to 40%.

They buy a bunch of syrup, but there is some that the maker cannot sell because it get a bitter taste, this is what they shoot for because of the price.

I know this is an old thread I made a maple rum. I used 5 liters maple syrup 7 lbs brown sugar and 12 oz of Brier rabbit molasses and some dap. Took 3 weeks to ferment and another 2 to clear. Was a 30L wash and got 7 bottles 45% 750 ml each. Cut to drinking strength with a distilled water and maple syrup mix (1part syrup 3parts water) only got 1 bottle left as it was everyone's favorite but it costs are through the roof it was around
18 a bottle after all ingredients bottles hoods caps and labels printed. Was offered but refused $50 for a bottle (gave him one for free) . My policy never will never have sold only give. If your still thinking about it and have a cheap sources for maple syrup do it you won't regret it.
