Hot water... I've never used anything but hot water to clean my stills unless the components are new or modified by soldering... That's all I've ever used too and never had a problem

Ive done nothing more than pour hot water in from above the defleg

thank you all for your input, i think we may have narrowed it down to two potential issues.

the rye i run next is gonna be the best....and then the rye i run after that is gonna better!!

considering the time of the year and where you live I would look at the temperature at the take off, the alcometers are usualy calibtrated at 20 C if the temperature of product is higher than 20 deg C you will be off by few degree. Check the temps.

distilling is like sex the slower the better and everyone is happy
fermenting is opposit to sex the faster the better
