Hi. Looking for advice on a liebig build... 3/4" over 1/2" aprox 24" to 36" long.
My question is regarding the tee coupling/reducer. It is 3/4"x3/4"x1/2" (see image below)
Can I take a round "rat tail" file and file down the stop on the inside of the 1/2" and feed
the 1/2" inside pipe through the tee, through the 3/4" outer pipe and repeat on other end?
Where the 1/2" tee meets the 1/2" pipe... can these be soldered?
Regards,
Duncan

Re: Liebig condenser question
Its not only possible, but standard practice.
See the design mentioned in the reading lounge and a popular modification to it in the threads below:

Thanks for the quick reply BDF.
Would the "popular modification" you are referring to be spiralled copper wire and twisted insert strip?

Yes.. the rat tail then a round file to finish off with which will make for a cleaner job, just watch to not take to much off, you need a tight fit, making soldering easier..Duncan W wrote:Can I take a round "rat tail" file and file down the stop on the inside of the 1/2" and feed

Yes.. that is how it is constructed..Duncan W wrote:Where the 1/2" tee meets the 1/2" pipe... can these be soldered?
I use 3/4 x 1/2 x 1/2" tee when constructing a liebig, using 3/4" for your water inlet and outlet will require additional fitting to reduce to 1/2" for the water connection..
