has anyone gotten the books from this site? i ordered them a while ago and Paypal was charged but i got no confirmation from the seller nor the books. I think they are e-books but don't really know. if they are e-books and are any good i would like to get copies from anyone who has them. maybe the seller is out of town or died?

Re: Gin Vodka Books
Have you read that Bruce ? I'm seeing on Page 20 a picture of a reflux still - a bit "Boka -y" with a thermometer at about collection level - and he says to hold the temperature at exactly 78 degrees C (which he states earlier is the boiling point of ethenol) and around page 22 he says that as soon as the temperature rises above 78C and nothing you can do will bring it down - switch off - you have all the ethanol !kiwi Bruce wrote:Is this one of the books you were looking for ?

[Edit and that is for a "Stripping run"! ]
Is this how you boys run an LM still ? I've never run one, but as far as I believe it's just a pot still with a column and a reflux condenser and atap valve - Ive never heard anyone on here talk about keeping temperatures constant at 78 C in a boka - doesn't sound right to me ?
That and him saying to make a sugar wash you put 10 kg sugar and about 150 grammes bakers yeast into a fermentation vessel with 50-60 litres waterand it will ferment out in 5-6 days (in fairness he does say to keep temp at a level with an aquarium thermometer.) - He also says to keep the yeast in suspension using and aquarium pump to keep the water circulating.
Makes me wonder whether he has ever actually done a ferment or a distillation.

No... I have not read any on this guy's stuff...I believe it's easier to write a book than run a still. spencoid...cross reference everything Mr John Stone wrote with what's here on HD. Just saying...

Really pleased you came back to us before reading thos spencoid - he may have ripped you off for $30 or so, but I think you're lucky he didn't send them. Had a horrible vision of you reading through them and trying to make them workspencoid wrote:ll the books and am going to cancel my paypal payment since this guy has not gotten back to me after almost a week. tons of other stuff on this site. before following any of the advise in the three books, i will definitely check with this forum.

Re: Gin Vodka Books
I had the Carriage Still book for many years now, think 18 or so, but don’t remember paying much for it, $5 USD maybe. Back then I remember him being very helpful on e-mail, but when I mailed him a few weeks ago.. nothing on any e-mail address.
He (John Stone) was retired when he started these books... I had the edition One book, edition two published in 2003,
Could well be good reason why he never replied to e-mail, possibly in his mid 70’s or more now... if he is still around....
The basis for my splitter head on my reflux column is basically this design, but scaled up to 50mm copper, 2m tower, 2x 3kW stainless boiler with power control on one element of a PSR-25 ‘phase angle’ power controller, though I have found I never need to turn it down.
The internal ‘funnel/cup/overflow reflux return/ delivery pipe’ stream head splitter works... it does the job to produce near azetrope purity.
