A friend of mine has a large Valencia orange tree in her yard. I convinced her to help me zest some oranges. Two hours later after picking, cleaning, zesting, we had zested well over 100 oranges, and had about 2.5 gallons of juice. This morning I fired up my re-purposed first still and collected 2 and 1/4 ounces (around 40grams) of Orange essential oil.
I don’t distill when my, soon to be 13 y/o daughter is out of school. Too much traffic through the house. So it’s a perfect opportunity to make essential oil. My daughter even helped zest some lemons with me once. Essential oils are fun to make and can have some great health benefits. Now I have to figure out how to use them in my liquor.

Yes: I’ve been suspending lemons above my vodka for a while now. Works great. Lovely subtle flavor. I have some lemon essential oil. Maybe I’ll try an experiment starting off with a few drops at a time. White lemonchello. Or maybe orange oil in a gin?
I’ll have to give it a go.

Orangecello is my current favorite. Second is split orange / lemon. Second tied is lemon.
