2" pot column to 1/2" liebig transition

Post by Froggy »

Hey guys,

It’s been a while since I've been on here as I've been out of the hobby for a bit. It’s time to get back into it though so I'm in the process of gathering more bits and building a few different stills.

The first one I am working on is a small (25L) pot still to be used for experimenting with flavoured recipes such rums and grains. The second will be boka on top a 50L keg for neutrals for doing infusions as I have a lot of fruit available.

This particular post however is for some advice on how best to transition a 2" column to a 1/2" liebig. I want to have a tri-clamp in the transition to allow me to adjust the liebig angle depending on the height/parrot/collection jars I am working with as well as to make an easy breakdown. So I guess my question is around where to place the 2' to 1/2" reducer.

Should I have:

2" column -> 2" 90 degree elbow -> 2" to 1/2" reducer -> 1/2" tri-clamp -> 1/2" 90 degree elbow -> liebig

or

2" column -> 2" 90 degree elbow -> 2" tri-clamp -> 2" 90 degree elbow -> 2" to 1/2" reducer -> liebig

I'm looking for pros and cons for each or possibly another options so I'd appreciate your input on this.

I'll try to attach here some pictures of the liebig I made on the weekend. It’s a 650mm 3/4" external jacket with 1/2" inner tube with copper wire spiral.
