Distilling with a Brew-Boss controller

Post by conodor »

I've brewed beer for about 15 years. Finally purchased my first Still. I bought a Brew-Boss electric brewing system, it comes with a great controller, it runs off a tablet. It's mainly for brewing beer. But it works with the Mile Hi still i bought also. Just plug in and i'm ready to go.

Anyone else use a Brew-Boss system with your still?

If this is the one you have https://www.brew-boss.com/category-s/191.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. That is ridiculously priced, other then that, it only controls temperature not power input which is what we need for distilling.

Yes that's it. I bought it for brewing and plan to use it for distilling also. It does have a temperature control on it. you can do it with the controller itself and/or with a phone or tablet.

We don't control the temperature when distilling. The mash ABV controls the temperature. We want to control the power to the element watts or amps to control the rate "vapor speed" of the output to match the collection rate. It does have a manual pot dial but not sure what it does.

I can set the app to control the temperature, or output power to the heating element. So if i wanted to hold a temperature of 154(when brewing) i set the temp for 154 for 60 minutes and it holds it with in a degree or 2. If i want to hold a set power. I can just do a manual setting. set the power at say 70% power. and it will hold that power indefinatly... well when the water is gone, i guess it'll stop at that point.

If you can adjust the power input you will be fine. It must be a PID style control, big money for what We use here but that's all good if it does the job. :|
