In the Blink of an Eye...

Post by glenlyon »

When it come to safety, I'm pretty fucking serious.
Everything I do has strict standard operating procedures from which, I do not deviate.
Yesterday, I made a mistake and accidentally opened the wrong valve...the details are grizzly.
I was fortunate to be working in a professional environment.
You can not be too careful. Especially, if operating in your kitchen - pay attention! You do not want to suffer or lose you house because, it happens - in the blink of an eye.

Thanks for the reminder, when things become routine we become lax. It is always nice to be reminded to follow protocol.

Details? Grizzly?

Edit: Ah sorry. Not wanting to sound as insensitive as I did. But a less cryptic description of the circumstances would most certainly benefit the hobby community as well as any newly minted members of the professional community.

It's always fun till one's dangly bits are scortched off the face of the earth...

The faint of heart can stop reading now.

A release of steam from the bain marie burned all the skin off my hands an right thigh. Exceedingly painful.

so sorry to hear of your injury. there really is nothing worse than a burn.

the burn wards are truly amazing these days, what they can do do mitigate pain and scarring is nothing short of miraculous. that said, there really isn't enough pain killer to really get the job done.

as a burn survivor myself, you have my sympathy and best wishes for a speedy recovery...it's gonna be a shite 3 months comin.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

That's me. I'm sure others here have as well.
The wounds heal, hopefully the memory fades but never goes away.

I've learned, among a few things...

1. do not siphon hot backset out of a boiler, especially not with suction from your own face (taste buds do eventually grow back)
2. wear good clothes and shoes when operating a boiler, protective gear if you have it
3. steam is really really hot and destructive to living tissue
4. hot sticky mash/wash clings to your flesh and burns worse than hot water
