Has anyone ever fermented a simple corn/whatever mash with Wyeast 1335 British Ale yeast?
HD Search shows nothing.
Found a mason jar nearly full of the 1335 in the back of the fridge.
Since I've got 50-pounds each of corn/2-Row, I've been mashing it with various yeasts for kicks.
(Got 6 small barrels that will need filling soon.)
This 1335 will be next, and I'm just curious in other's experience/flavor with it.

Re: Wyeast 1335 Corn/ 2-Row Question
I’ve used it for beer. It produces a lot of esters, especially if fermented warm. Pretty good attenuation but not extremely flocculant. But I’ve never tried to make a bourbon (distiller’s beer) with it. I suspect it will do OK, especially if you like the esters in your product.
I hope it’s still viable having been “found in the back of your fridge”. For sure you’ll want to make a starter so you’ll know it’s healthy. Otherwise, you may be misled by the anticipation.

That's the kind of answer I like. Ester-producing gives me a lot to work with now for research.
Found High Ester Whiskey and this terrific Ester Chart that will assist me.
Starter plate it'll be, too. It's about 3 months old in the fridge so we'll see.
Hey, still_stirrin, I really appreciate your help!

Re: Wyeast 1335 Corn/ 2-Row Question
Make a good starter.
For beer, the high ester yeasts sometimes disappoint me unless I go to extra effort for temperature control, or ferment in the winter basement. But I expect it would be interesting to see what pulls over in distillation. Some of those strong flavors that I don't always want in an ale get aged into something beautiful after distilling.
Another +1 for Der Wo.

Thanks, bilgriss.
About a year ago, I made a stirrer by mounting a CPU micro fan in a case with a powerful magnet JBWelded onto the center hub.
I have a variable voltage potentiometer for speed control...
And found this selection of stirrers on Amazon:
Yeast starters are no longer a problem.

Nice! I have a fleabay find which arrived out of order, was refunded, and later repaired. Ended up with a mostly free stir plate. They work wonders.

HOw did the 1335 work out? I'm getting curious about using some of Wyeast ale strains for whiskey
