Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
Admittedly, I'm posting this as a link for me to point to when someone asks how to post a picture. Been a few requests as of late.
So many of the existing posts point to off-site Resizing programs, and it's simpler than that.
Maximum picture size on HD is 800x800 pixels
To resize:
Open your picture in MSPaint
Click Resize
Click Pixels
Change LARGER number to 800
Leave Maintain aspect ratio checked
Do Save As and remember new name
To post on HD:
At bottom of your post, click Upload attachment
Browse for your resized photo, and click Add the file
Add a comment if you want
Put cursor where you want picture to display in your post, and click Place inline

We have several threads on posting but I agree this is well written. If you use an iPad there are several good apps. I use SimpleResize very easy.

Maybe so CH - but it's the easiest way I've found to submit a photo.

I allus used mspaint, then I tried & loved paintdotnet. cropping is much easier, after you get the hang of it.
It is free, too!

If you've got an Apple computer system, open a picture in "Preview", click up on Tools, then "Adjust Size..." and then under "Fit into:" you can pick 800 x 600.
just messing with buckets and steel and copper.

On my iPad I use an app called image size. Here is what the app looks like.
When you click on the app you get a screen that looks like this:
From here choose your photo and save, pretty easy.

Re: Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
this is all great, but since HD is about distilling and not acting as a MS reseller, why not allow instructions on how to resize in Linux? I am volunteering to provide an initial write-up. I think that culturally Linux users are much closer to the average distiller than MS people. Final consideration: Linux users may be smart enough and not in need of such instructions, so the link on the wiki is just a testament to MS people's limitations.
What do you think, mods?

Re: Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
Colin - preface, I'm a Linux user myself. This is generally a helpful place, and the spirit of this post is to help people out. There are varying levels of computer literacy present here, and I would guess the majority of users are on MS/Mac. Like you said, Linux might tend to be a more computer literate demographic.
I wouldn't read this as an advert for MS, and I think you are putting you personal feelings about this kind of thing in the wrong place. You should check the rules, but this is tending towards 'politicicisaton' of peoples choice of operating system. If you feel there is value in doing a Linux tutorial, feel free. But do it because you think there's a real need for it and it would be helpful, rather than just because you are offended that someone is giving a tutorial using MS.

Re: Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
I most always take pics using my phone and to crop the images too. When I post my phone's pics here from my PC, more often than not, the pics are displayed upside down for some reason. I find it convenient to open a pic in MS Paint, flip the image (vertically), save it, flip the image again (vertically), save it again then post the pic. Whenever I do that, the image is always displayed in the proper orientation on the forum.

Booze Pipe , are you posting from your phone or a PC?The Booze Pipe wrote: ↑Wed Feb 04, 2026 3:33 pmI’ve been trying to figure out how to get my images upright, they’re always sideways!Salt Must Flow wrote: ↑Wed Feb 04, 2026 3:30 pm I most always take pics using my phone and to crop the images too. If it is your phone , edit your pic first , such as a small crop .This will strip the orientation data off the pic and it will post right way up every time .

Re: Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
They are cell phone pictures that I send to my PC via email. I use the forum from my laptop. So I just need to hit the picture with a slight crop before starting the process?Yummyrum wrote: ↑Wed Feb 04, 2026 4:21 pmBooze Pipe , are you posting from your phone or a PC?The Booze Pipe wrote: ↑Wed Feb 04, 2026 3:33 pmI’ve been trying to figure out how to get my images upright, they’re always sideways!Salt Must Flow wrote: ↑Wed Feb 04, 2026 3:30 pm I most always take pics using my phone and to crop the images too. Re: Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
These are the pics that were emailed again to my PC after I had edited (cropped) them first on my phone .
EDIT: well bugger me , that works .
I was was expecting it not to as the pics had the right orientation on the PC so I figured the orientation data was still attached ....but apparently not
So in summary .
Edit the pics on your phone before Uploading them to the forum or Emailing them to your PC and they will appear correct .

Re: Easy Picture Posting with MSPaint
This may help some people who also take pics with their phone, but use their laptops or PCs to upload to the forum. There are free programs like 'Phone Link' you can run on the PC/laptop that links to your phone wirelessly. I take pics with my phone, sit down at the PC/laptop, open 'Phone Link' and the pics are accessible right there. I copy them from the phone, paste them into a folder on the PC/laptop and do anything I need (editing, flipping images, uploading, etc...).
Phone Link does other convenient thing too, like it shows text notifications and you can reply to texts easily from the PC/laptop. You can access your phone's apps too.

I use WhatsApp to send the pics to myself, then at the PC, I use the WhatsApp app to download, and crop as necessary there
