plastic carboys

Post by Odinson88 »

I have (and use) glass carboys, however I also have a couple 5gal water jugs (for water cooler things). However, normal bungs are too small for these. anyone have ideas/experience in making an airlock system for these, and willing to share?

Just loose fit a cloth over the opening. Airlock not required.

I thought the yeast would die young or it would make vinegar without airlock

Carbon dioxide sits on top and forms a barrier.

Thicker is better, but if you are intending to distil as soon as it's ready, it doesn't make much difference.
If not, it should be airlocked.

More brew stores have the larger bungs if you really want one.

I use thr lids, dril a little hole and use the 1 way air valves for aquariums. If the ferment is just right, it whistles! Hahha!

Yeah, being brain challenged and working from an iPad makes the seemingly simple surprisingly complex. I give up, till I can master this cute little iPad iOS and it’s wrinkles...

Go to the pencil icon on the post, this will allow you to edit it. Then at the bottom of the post choose attachments. Choose add file, then choose photo library. From here select the photo and it will probably already place on your post otherwise choose Place inline.
This should work.

Heres my aquarium valve stopper. It feeds a line into a water jar to check progress. Yes, not as easy as the other bungs, but this was free. More $$ for goodies, even if $2.99. Lol.
