Ferrule questions
I am just planning my column build and want to get copper ferrules.
Are all copper ferrules tapered at the mating end? For the tri clamp to tighten properly.
Some of the photos look deceiving (attached)....

Re: Ferrule questions
All the ones I see have a slight taper. I made some of my own that were not tapered and work just fine just make sure you get the approved gaskets for distilled alcohol.
Re: Ferrule questions
If it is advertised as a t/c ferrule then it should have a taper. Do a search for soldering stainless steel ferrules to copper too. It's not very hard if you use the right flux, and SS ferrules are cheaper and more durable. Just a suggestion.

Re: Ferrule questions
Tri-clamp ferrule fittings have a taper on them . Thats how they clamp up .
The clamp also had a taper in it . Thats how they work . Tightening the clamp applies a shear force to the ferrules that closes them together .
All tri- clamp ferrules and clamps have to conform to a standard .

My recommended goto .

Ferrule questions #2
A couple more questions about ferrules:
I am planning my column build with 2" copper. Type M shows 51mm I.D. and 54mm O.D.
Ferrules seem a little confusing as some suppliers are listing the OD of the flange instead of the pipe.
Then, you get the Chinese where anything goes in the descriptions.....
Here is an example of one (photo attached) where they show the pipe O.D. as 51mm (the same as copper pipe I.D.) I assume this is not an issue.
They say the flange takes a 64mm Tri Clamp.
QUESTIONS:
1. Is the 64mm Tri Clamp standard for all 2" copper pipe applications?
2. Is there a good site or link to cross reference all of these mm/inch sizes?

Re: Ferrule questions
I did a quick google search on this forum and found this Link http://www.geordi.com.au/ferrule%20dimensions.htm
In this old thread . https://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtop ... 1#p6935916
You should try and familiarise yourself with the search feature on this forum . It works better than the search engines on mist forums .... and most questions have been asked before .
Yes a 64mm tri clamp is correct size for a 2” ferrule .... although they are normally referred to as 2” triclamp because that is the size of ferrule they are designed to clamp .

Re: Ferrule questions
I found this standard to be quite convenient when a friend gifted me a 6" ferrule (and the welding!) for the top of my keg. I ended up ordering the 6" clamp and gaskets from different vendors in different states and they both fit the ferrule perfectly.

Re: Ferrule questions
Right, no issue. Ferrules slide very easily into type M pipe.copperpothead wrote: ↑Sun Mar 07, 2021 11:16 am they show the pipe O.D. as 51mm (the same as copper pipe I.D.) I assume this is not an issue.
