Jim Beam type cork T-stoppers.
I am seeking a source for nominal 1" diameter cork T-stoppers...to fit used Jim Beam 1.75 liter glass bottles. I've looked around on the interweb, including Widgetco.com, with no luck. Lots around for wine bottles, but no joy looking for standard 1.75 liter glass bottles...which I love to reuse.

Why not just a tapered cork? Purely aesthetic reasons?
Fear and ridicule are the tactics of weak-minded cowards and tyrants who have no other leadership talent from which to draw in order to persuade.

Re: Jim Beam type cork T-stoppers.
I tried looking last night for T-Cory stoppers last night in that size and couldn't find any either. This is a screw top bottle.. I use generic 750's from various brands with my own labels and decanters for single bottles (standard T-stoppers fit these and wine bottles) and 1 gallon jugs/jars for larger storage at cask proof's along with a couple barrels that I need to recondition.
You might be able to get something from Widgetco and DIY an appropriate T Cork for that?
Cheers!

Now that it's brought to my attention, I can't really say why I prefered T-stoppers. I guess its indefensible aesthetics. Perhaps I thought they'd last longer.
I bow to the power of experience. I'll get tapered corks.
Thanks all.

Personally, I don't like using corks with screw top bottles, because the area of glass in contact with the cork is smaller than a straight neck bottle.

TDick:
Thanks for that, I've seen those. That is what I'm looking for, but they are too small for the 1 inch opening: Width Base : 19. 5 mm
I'd need about 26.5-27 mm...25.4 mm plus 1-1.5 mm recommended interference fit.
For now I am bending to peer pressure. I ordered samples of 4 tapered cork stoppers from widgetco today for some trial fitting.
Note: widgetco now has free shipping regardless of order size, and they will credit the cost of ordered samples to your next purchase.
Another issue:
I still have no solution for sealing my fido clamp-top gallon jars. I have not had any luck trying PTFE tape. I can't fill the large gap left after removing the thick rubber gasket, so they leak.
I think I will try some amazon pre-cut square PTFE sheets under the existing rubber gasket for a tight seal.
I've done a lot of reading in the forum on this topic, but have not seen a solution yet.
Is anyone making the oak lids yet? Seems like a nice little business to start up.

Re: Jim Beam type cork T-stoppers.
I got some expanded PTFE gaskets for the sight glasses on my column. Found them at a company called Equalseal. Just check the dimensions. I trimmed the outer border to size. They have 1/16 and 1/8 thicknesses.RocketSurgeon wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 4:43 pm

Hambone:
Are you referring to Equalseal EQ 535exp Expanded PTFE Gaskets? Very pricey.
I'm thinking of the amazon 4-5 inch PTFE sheets for about $25 for 100-500. Used for making some kinda sticky cannabis related wax product. Should work well in conjunction with existing ball jar and clamp lid seals.

I had to check to see the type of closure on these jars...
I have made PTFE gaskets for them by wrapping lots of plumber's tape (PTFE) around a cardboard template.
Works okay. BTW you can get the tape in a thicker version; less winding.

The everlasting gasket. And you could double up the cardboard to a certain point maybe for some springy compression.
For the T corks - if you can find or sand/whittle a regular straight cork you can probably make a round T part with a little krafty equity and use some sort of appropriate binder (glue) to attach it to the top maybe into a slightly recessed hole.

That's a thought. Could shape a cork blank in the lathe, the dip the top in plastic tool dip.

Re: Jim Beam type cork T-stoppers.
I guess I justified the price as I only needed 6 for my sight glass, and probably will never need replacement. The expanded is nice vs solid. Squishes down…RocketSurgeon wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 7:43 pm Hambone:

It depends on the degree of sealing needed. I use several coffee filters folded over to make an approximate circle. Depending on the gap, three or four will make a very tight fit.
No, you can't turn the jars upside-down, or shake them vigorously, but they will sit on a shelf just fine.
