How Do You clean a shotgun condenser
Hi Everyone,
One of the hardest thing to clean is probably the shotgun condenser since it has very small holes each around 1 cm
İn diameter is making them hard to clean. I am using a long brush around half an inch in diameter and 10 inch in length ı sm using it with pbw back and forth to clean sometimes I see rust like colors coming out in the end of the condenser holes, while cleaning and I wonder if I am doing the right procedure to clean because it is so hard to be sure whether it is 100 percent clean so what would be the correct way to clean a shotgun condenser what do you recommend, would it help to submerge the condenser in a star san solution for a few days ?
Would it help to really clean those unreachable holes ?

Why does it need cleaning? If its new then the usual vinegar and sac runs should clean it for you. If its because of a puke then try cleaning/soaking with some hot backset/dunder then rinsing with water.

All I clean mine with is a hot tap water rinse after use. The fores and heads of the next run take care of the rest. Let a patina build up on the inside. I'd rather taste the patina than the metallic taste you get from shiney copper.

This might be a stainless condenser with smallish vapor tubes.
Artooks, can you post a pic?

It is a stainless shotgun you cannot believe how much gunk is coming out of it.

I treat mine like the folks above do. A rinse with water and hang to dry after every use, and backset of or similar mild acid if I must.
Gunk does not sound good. If I were seeing gunk I’d want to know for sure where is is coming from. Have you looked at your condenser up close after a thorough cleaning? If not, you should.
If it’s a puke things will clean up nicely. simply clean it and work on your power control when you strip. A rag pushed through with a dowel should work, or a rifle cleaning kit with a brush. Looks to be about a 45 caliber.
My fear would be rust. Rust will eventually leak, and when it does it will be in your spirit. Hopefully you would notice that when it first happens, and not have it slowly diluting your product with unclean water. Yuk! Once you get this think clean and shiny, look in there with a flashlight for rust spots. If you have that, you have some fixing or replacing to do.

Re: How Do You clean a shotgun condenser
During welding, if Stainless is not gas purged it is easy to turn your stainless steel into not stainless steel.
Google a bit on Pickling and Passivation.

You can make your weld significantly more corrosion-resistant if this is your problem.

Are you sure there is a rust? I don't see it, it seems all stainless steel ....... just a bit of dirt on a border maybe ...
