Too much botanical taste

Post by Royalwulf »

ok, so i am not good at following recipies. I made a neutral. On the 3rd distilation (pot still) i infused using still spirits gin botanicals. It came out very weak so i added some juniper berries and other herbs and macerated it. One jar 48 hours, one jar a week and one jar a week with more botanicals.
I filtered it and had a taste, It was very nice so didn't bother to distill it again. That was over 3 ago and now it is ok with a tiny sip but it is too much as a g&t.

Keen to tip the whole lot in still and distill it again.
When i look at odlins recipie, you either macerate it for 5 weeks or macerate it for 24 hours and boil it in the boiler.
My question is do i add even more botanicals and boil them in boiler?
If i don't i think it might be too weak. Will follow odlin recipie next time.

There is no need to redistil, just add neutral.

So you have flavored your gin post- Distillation with the berries right? Inserting or no other botanicals depends on how aromatic is your product ... Generally distillation attenuates a little aroma (even if this depends on the type of plant used) but makes it more delicate and harmonized with the distillate. I generally make a maceration in neutral alcohol, then filter and insert in a micro still to Bain-marie .. my palate tells me that filtering the plants It gives a less "herbaceous" flavor to the distillate. It is important to make good cuts .
