Little or nothing to do with distillation.

Listed under brewing equipment in our local Facebook Marketplace. Under the photo it says kegs $40. With the following photo. Not very smart!

Is it illegal to sell a used still?

Do the websites who sell stills have special licenses to sell distillation equipment?

So what is the licensing requirements for the numerous dealers and fabricators of distilling equipment that they have online?

It is state level regs. Some states it is perfectly legal to have a still as they can be used to distill water or essential oils. Other states outlaw owning a still.

Maybe not but could be an easy way to be put on a watchlist.

Yes, well so is membership on distillation forum/social media group. Yet here we are.

Although, affiliation is not quite the same as outright marketing your paraphernalia.

Exactly. Advertising that your in possession of and attempting to collect untaxed profit off of illegal contraband is completely different from having an email tied to a distillers website.

In some states, it is illegal to possess a still.
I answered a Craigslist ad a while ago and politely asked him to remove his post to protect him. He then stated that the feds had been "up in his business last year".

One state I had reason to research recently has a pretty stupid conundrum. Possession of stills is illegal except for licensed distilleries. Yet licenses aren't granted until stills are in place. So it's technically impossible to start a distillery without breaking the law, and licenses are forbidden to people who have violated liquor laws. Cute.

Likewise it is impossible to legally manufacture or sell distillation equipment, even if only selling to licensed distilleries unless you also have a distillery permit. No they won't give you a distillery permit if you want to manufacture or sell distillation equipment instead of run a distillery. Cute.

Inquiry with state officials was met with, "Yes, it's technically illegal, but that's our process. Of course we wouldn't ever prosecute it.". Call me old fashioned but I prefer scenarios where the state can't prosecute rather than just saying they won't. Guess who has zero interest in fixing this? Everybody I talked to in the state's government.

Kinda sounds like the child support laws in my county.

The court will literally establish child support payments based on respective incomes prior to going to family court to establish custody arrangements. So even if you have your kids 50/50 you still get saddled with a hefty child support payment.
