Choose yer poison...

Post by Chauncey »

Jeppsons Malort....or Gold listerine. If you had to drink one or throw up on yer own balls...which way do you go?

Sorry scrote I almost quaffed the listerine but HoRKkkkkk

Should've called this thread

MALORT IS FUCKING GROSS.

I realize this content is subversive and if I have violated any rule by speaking candidly but still crudely take it up with me in person, errr not

I'm drunk

Awhile back somebody brought a bottle to our weekly barn party.
It would be an excellent choice for an alcoholic that needed to limit his drinking.
Vomit has a more pleasant after taste.

Never heard of the stuff before....had to Google...nothing I'm reading about it floats my boat.

".Stick with us here — Jeppson's Malort tastes like something between fiery death and herbal, gasoline-extracted fruitiness. This liquor is harsh, savory, and waxy on the palate, and its concoction of bitter herbs and pungent power will make you feel a lot of things, and “alive” is one of"

I've never tasted the real deal, but I make a version using Wormwood from my garden. The bottle has a sprig of flowers in it. I like it, but I wouldn't offer it to visitors.

Never heard of it but if you’re pitting anything against gold listerine it must be brutal
Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

Malort is considered a dare shot in Chicago. My brother keeps a bottle at his shop for when someone loses a bet.
He bought me a bottle of Malort and a 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle for my 50th birthday. I am much more generous sharing the Malort over the Pappy.
Malort reminds me of concentrated old fashioned yellow Listerine.
The commercial for this stuff is hysterical.

In the 50's I was a nosey kid who worked for his father. He kept a bottle of Malort on the back bar of his tavern on the Fox Chain'O Lakes. At around 5:30am on a lot of Saturday mornings in the summer a surprising number of Chicago, blue collar fishermen would creep up to the bar, point with one finger at the Malort bottle, and whisper shakily "weeds". Where upon my uncle would pour him a stiff one and then put him in a rowboat to go catch some bluegill or crappie.

Seemed normal to me at the time. :D

I just had a shot of my 2017 Bäsk, 45% compared to Malört's 35%. I think it's almost nice at that abv. I wouldn't want to drink a bottle of it in a sitting though, even at 35%.

A shot of 9 month old 42.7% Bäsk is nice too. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. :D

I've written up a new method for next year's version, more wormwood and some additional botanicals I've read about when searching Malört.

This cocktail called the "Lawless" is very good and I had it first in Phoenix during Superbowl in 2015. The cocktail calls for Bäska Snaps Malört but all I could steal was the Jeppsons Malört. I also use my hoe-made outlaw bourbon which is more lawless than anything you can buy in a shop - Truckstop bitters? Yep.

Not straight but in a cocktail that's intended to emphasize a little outlaw behaviour I'd think we'd all be chewin on it through the smoke and lead..

My bottle of Jeppsons isn't near empty and prolly won't be for several years to come so I'll make y'all one if we ever get a chance to meet up off some dark and dank alley..

Cheers,
jonny
