even easier than a bung is to just use a stainless steel bolt. I got a half inch bolt, drill a slightly undersized hole and thread in the bolt. After going in an out a few times I have had to put a little bees wax on it to maintain the seal

Just all me tupperware.
That is very funny to me, as our company at OCS called ourselves the walruses and had a cadence we marched to, which mentioned looking for a tight seal. ...left, ...left,,,left, right.

Missed you over on the jokes thread. I actually read the joke and knew who'd posted it before I even looked at the username!

Here's a delight: A customer emailed me a photo of his barrel storage, and I just laughed my little ass off. I asked him if he would be okay with me sharing his photo here, and he agreed. I hope you folks get a kick out of it too.

That's perfect.

Therefore I'm not a alcoholic, I'm spiritual.

Can this be done with just a bung im thinking of giving an old barrel lid a go ive just ordered 2x 7.8ltr bain marie pots figure one for rum and one for single malt barley done with yellow label angel yeast.
Dont feel i need the tap as i can sample through the bung hole using a glass basting tube
Just drill a hole to fit a spare whiskey bottle cork.
Has anyone used a cnc to make these im thinking if they could find a whiskey barrel lid that is tung and grooved instead of nailed then they could cnc 3 tops from each barrel lid.
The cnc would be able to re surface it at the same time.
I dont have a cnc router unfortunately but over the years ive been tempted to get one.
Ive also found a 7.8ltr bain marie that works in the uk. If anyone is interested.
Ok so i cut a barrel lid up using the template i printed and making sure i kept a line of dowel to hold it together. sanded it down to bear wood on both sides then re toasted the inside and gave it a lite char. i put in a 19mm hole and put in a wine bottle cork then tapped it in to the bain marie and filled with hot water. It sealed after 10 min.
I thaught about reversing the wood to act as a fresh barrel but i left the original side out as im putting rum in it and so im hoping to pick up a little complexity from the last whiskey ... mabey considering i re toasted and charred

There you go! Nice work!
I have no doubt that you will love what comes out in a few years. Cheers!
Has anyone tried this with a keg if ya cut off the bottom third on the ring then it would have a fleared edge and the triclamp opening at the end could be used for filling

Would you share the file used for printing the template? I plan on making three more in the next month and a printed template would be much nicer than the cardboard I have.

Barrel owners, if you have barrel numbers 941 and 942, please PM me.
It's a shot in the dark but if you're on here...
Barrel lotto? Is there a prize?

Well, maybe. Whoever bought those barrels is crazy close to me. I'd like to meet up with them.

I'm sure Badmo isn't in the habit of giving out his customer's info without permission, but maybe you could ask him to give the buyer your info? Or just point them to the forum to reach out if they're interested.
Just a thought. I'm always interested in who is in the hobby nearby too.
I figure if the person saw them on here and sees the post they'll either have enough interest ot PM or they won't. Not everyone that's buying these is a home distiller, so why ask Ben to give my info out to a stranger?
On another note, it's good to see the demand has gotten so great that he's got a wait list.

Managed to bag a barrel from today's release. 34 went up for sale, they were all gone within 15 minutes. There's definitely a demand for these! Can't wait for mine! I'm going to build one as well but it'll take a bit before I can get everything I need together so will be looking forward to using one of Ben's in the meantime.
