It's a special day. Aside from officially becoming an "old man", I got a great unexpected gift from Twisted Brick who's become a great, long distance friend.
He sent me 3 samples to try. His barrel aged bourbon, a white dog wheat single malt, and a plumb brandy. All fantastic I might add.
These were the first products made by someone else that I've got to sample. The insight it gave me into cuts was invaluable in validating what I've been selecting for my own spirits.
What was more impressive that the spirits, was the very creative packaging he used to ensure the bottles arrived unbroken.

This online community of ours has introduced me to some really great people, and given me hope for humanity in this upside-down world.
TB, thanks again for the amazing gift. I can't wait to do the cleaning runs and get it to use. It'll be interesting to compare apples to apples on our run notes.

The friendship has been the real reward for what evolved from casual exchanges into sharing of distilling details, spirits and life. Also gotta admit your generosity of shipping a barrel down to me made a lasting impression, not to mention some fine tastin’ booze. The older I get the shorter life seems, and its the relationships and memories that count the most.

I'm at a point in my life where I have decided a single day isn't enough so I take an entire week off work for my birth week :D

It's been a pretty good birth week. Huge breakfasts every day and lots of naps. Mrs Cranky took me to the casino with the best prime rib buffet. They gave me a $35 dinning credit and $20 in free play, which I turned into $400 in real money and enough points to make the buffet only $15 for the two of us.

The prime rib was exceptional, the rest was just OK except the ox tail, I didn't really care for that.
