This is my rig

I've got an onion head for it to give some more copper contact and hopefully stop any possible puking. But mostly because it looks cool! Needs cleaning before I use it.

Went from a canning pot and worm condenser to this. Not pretty but I'm happy for my first build.

I just twisted up my first legit coil. Uncoil your copper line. Tape a funnel to one end and cap the other with tape. A rubber funnel that fits snug over the OD of the line is perfect. Fill with table salt shaking and tapping the line to ensure you’ve got it all in there. I used a piece of gas pipe and the side of a cardboard six pack for my gap.Worked great. However, I think that the most time consuming thing blasting that damn cardboard out of there. Danespirit has a good idea using something slick if that works. Not the prettiest but it’ll get the job done.

5 gallon finishing boiler to add to the collection . 3000w element, about 1 gal minimum to cover the element. Interchangeable with all my head/ condenser setups.
Built into a milk crate for stability.

So after much trials and mistakes and faulty goods I've finally got her finished.

Not the neatest of welds but there are no leaks.

1st with a simple riser and my baby shotty in pot still "mode"

I know the condenser LOOKS tiny but it has more than enough condensing power ..... probably too much in fact as I'm constantly fighting "huffing"

The with the recently "finished" Boka head

I've not made the column yet and am still debating copper over stainless ( hoping a good deal pops up and makes the decision for me ) and I've left the Boka long for now just in case the coil doesn't condense everything and I need to make a new one (should be fine but better safe than sorry) there's about 40mm can be cut off if it's all ok during testing.

I'm so glad I put the effort in to put the 5" ferrule in can get my arm in easily for a good clean up can see the level easily when filling and gives me a nice big target.

I've only done a couple of stripping runs with her so far but it's sooooooo much nicer just pouring 20+litres in and letting it rip than spending half the day emptying and refilling my tiny 10l boiler and constantly getting pukes.

My Mrs likes Gin so I built a new Gin pot to process neutral to Gin.

4L SS Milk pail with a 2” ferrule on a short copper riser. Used a pull through to pull in the ferrule and the riser into the lid. Silver solder.

This accepts my existing pot still head and Liebig condenser.

Stove top.

I had the same kit, bought in 2020 and quickly found that the condenser pot was not nearly big enough - blew steam a few times. I went down to the local Goodwill and found an old aluminum pot, bought a 20 foot coil from home depot and built a new condenser using the parts from the OG. Works perfect. I use it on my new setup as well very successfully.

OK, so I finally got my setup to a state where it's not just a bunch of gear scattered around the floor. Here's my setup:

From left to right

Auber DSPR400 SSR controller.
45 gallon brew kettle with 5500w element.
16 gallon converted keg still (mostly used for steam)
Auber dual channel temp meter (behind the keg)
Mile High 16 gallon boiler
Twisted Brick shotgun condenser (highly recommended!)
14 gallon poly fermenter (wrapped in blankes)

Both stills are wrapped in Reflectix, nice lightweight insulation.

The latest upgrade was the bench underneath which allows a 5 gallon bucket to go under the drain from any of them. Should save a lot of scooping!

Thanks to all who have posted here and elsewhere about their setups and helped me figure out mine.

My modest 30l keg

(The tubing for the dephlag and PC are slicon but its only for water circulation, and the gasket behind the glass union is ptfe... just in case you were curious)

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it.

As for the copper... the section above the sight window and below dephlag is filled with 10ft of 1/2" copper pipe cut into 1/2" long pieces. I wanted copper in the vapor path but nothing so tightly packed that it would create a lot extra reflux.

First test drive and cleaning runs today. Worked just fine. Couple of things to tidy up like the hole in the riser but I’m really happy. Bought it a month ago but had to put in a 2000watt (low watt density) 240v element and sort out a drain tap. Looks funny but cleaned up nicely inside and should be good for stripping 45L of molasses ferment. Looking forward to that. Nice day in good old NZ today. Global warming’s given us a really warm April. Sorry about the sideways picture thing.

Inspired solely by NZchris making regular mention of his pre heater I decided to press my beer wort chiller into service to pre heat my second strip today and see what happened, it works really well!

Just routed the outlet from my leibig through it and ran really low flow so it was hot, and by the time the first strip was done, the second was at just over 60 degrees going into the boiler and it cut the heat up time by loads.

That worm is gonna give you fits until you get it sitting right. It should be a smooth gradual downward coil.
