Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Stripped first of two batches of ag vodka made from raw rolled wheat.
This one was glucan rested, gelatinised, mashed with enzymes, lautered, and pitched with baker’s yeast.
The second batch was made by pouring near boiling water on the grain, and pitching yellow label Angel the next morning when it had cooled down. It’ll get stripped next weekend.
Then we can compare results VS effort.

I hope you’ll do better with cuts than they do.
Nice whiskey, but too much heads in the bottle.

woohoo!! strippin' my first rum!! they need a dancing emoji. Going so slow to avoid a puke. Just drippin through the fores now. I only have a 2 gal charge and I did put 1/4 stick of butter in, so I should be fine, but you never know.
I did the SBB's All Molasses Rum.

Plum Brandy and showed a new guy into this craft how to run a still.
Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Rhubarb brandy. Did a 1.5 and went for tighter cuts than normal. Smelled great but only time will tell.

Mashed Baird's Heavily Peated barley. Bubbling away quite nicely.
Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Currently into the hearts of my first SBB spirit run - had 20 litres of Bundaberg molasses sitting around and finally got the time. Did it over a few generations and have 10 litres of the last stripping runs dunder cubed no chill style for the next time around. Plenty of flavour coming through - looking foward to getting this on oak and forgetting about it for a year or more. Thanks Salty.

I love farm cheese!! Sometimes I really miss milking and making cheese. But most of the time, I'm so glad I don't have to go milk!
Farm cheese, or the kind I made, is like a cheddar, but not really. Like if American cheese and cheddar had a baby, it would be farm cheese.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
I have a prune plum, they are so good to eat fresh, but not so good for preserving. I might have to get a regular plum tree. I planted one pear tree last year, when I went to get another they were gone. My peach trees got a ton of peaches last year, then they were all gone.Bradster68 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 12:38 pmThat's awsome Steve. Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Just finished a run of Honey Bear with oats with my new plates -- I'm a bit worried the plates took the ABV up too high, and that I'll lose some of the yummy flavor I was aiming for.

I just ordered more grains for another Honey Bear, can't wait.
Re: What'd ya'll make today?
I did two 13.5 gallons strips of Shady's Sugar Shine yesterday. Got 5.5 gallons of 41% low wines. I've got 4 gallons of high feints to add (will also need about 3 gallons water to bring it down to 40%) to do a run of neutral.
I ran this using my new keggle - 3500W at 100% power didn't even make the 2x21 shotty blink. It took about 2 hours for each run. I'm gonna need a 5500W element if I want to strip any faster than that, but it should be fine for spirit runs.
Going to get started on a bourbon mash today.

Man that's great. I have been reading a book about Mead. I really need to get some honey and get some going. The book I have has a lot of recipes. I didn't know anything about Mead. Was surprised to lean it is aged like wine. Have you ever distilled any?

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
It's super simple. Joe's ancient orange is a great recipe. Google search it. I use it alot. Follow his directions and it'll be a success.
After a year it's amazing. I haven't distilled any yet,but finally got some bee hives so once I get going I will be giving it a try for sure. Also there's "tonsa" it uses fermaid "k" and "go ferm" to help things as far as nutrients go. Google search will help ya out.
Good luck

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Thanks for the feedback man. I will definitely look at those recipes. Whis I had bees. I've thought about it before. But never more than that. My cousin just down the road keeps bees. I'll have to check and see when I can get some honey.Bradster68 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 5:29 pmIt's super simple. Joe's ancient orange is a great recipe. Google search it. I use it alot. Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Refluxed my SSS (+feints) for neutral in my CCVM. I've got 36" of packed 2" column and was getting about 94.5%. Next time I'll add a 6" packed spool to see if I can get azeo, but I'm not obsessed with it.
5.5 gal 41% low wines
4 gal 80% feints from multiple whiskey batches
3 gal water
I got nearly 4 gallons of good 94% neutral - that should make a lot of gin.

I just grabbed the stuff to start making mead. My buddies have been doing it for a while.
