Howdy from Eastern US

Post by StingerFarmHand »

Hello to all, I am here in the Eastern US. Distilling is my new pursuit as a collector of hobbies. I have made candles, soap, built engines, have an extensive garden, raise bees, and grow grapes. I have always been interested in additional uses for my scuppernong grapes and my honey, so why not try distilling them. As you have noticed from the cars I also enjoy building things, so the lure of building a still entices me as well. I am currently looking at building a reflux still for the purity of the product, but may want more flavors considering the product I will be using for fermentation which may change my build choice before I get started. I am here to learn from all those doing this well before me and hope I can make something palatable in the future with that knowledge.

Welcome, SFH! Sounds like you’re likely to fit in quite well here. With the grapes and the honey, you might think about a pot still, or something easily convertible between pot and reflux. I’m sure you’ll get lots of advice and opinions, and there’s a ton of stuff to be found in the forums if you search long enough.

Welcome to the group.

Think about a 15.5 gallon SS Keg as your boiler.
put a 4 inch flange on it. you can get your hand/arm inside to clean.
Then you can make a Reflux column, or a potstill head for it.
