I spent my stilling day replacing what was left of the original (ca. 2006) plumbing in the house. The brass fittings were so corroded that they broke off in my hands, and what was supposed to be a quick repair job before firing up the still turned into an all day affair.

I fn hate plumbing. That's why the plumber comes to your house with a van and trailer full of supplies. So he doesn't have to make 20 trips back to the store for shit he needs.Steve Broady wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:30 pm I spent my stilling day replacing what was left of the original (ca. 2006) plumbing in the house. Rum ferment going this morning.
About 12 gallons of water.
10 kg Crosby's fancy molasses.
908 grams Panela.
Mix of bakers and DADY. Bakers seemed a little slow in the starter.

Found this in a small grocery store in Edmonton specializing in Mexican, Central and South American foods.

Not that long ago I posted the same thing in "anyone get any good deals" when it was just under 2 bucks. Keep an eye on it, price may go down again.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Glad that you scored some. It will make you a nice rum. Keep us posted!
I took inventory of my fermenting stock and I have 52 pounds of that Goya panela & 1.5G of blackstrap waiting to be fed to my little friends. I scored it at Walmart a couple years ago for $1.13 per pound. They have since quit stocking it, so I’m glad I got it while the getting was good.
🎱 The struggle is real and this rabbit hole just got interesting.

Thanks 8Ball. Just waiting for the weather to warm up. I have 2 gallons of fancy molly that I bought a couple years ago for around $14ea. I like golden rums but my daughter wants a lighter rum for mojitos, so gonna have to prolly get more panella.

Ran the first stripping run of a purple barley Whiskey.
My plug failed half way thru the run so i got to finish it with propane. Good thing I'm steam stripping.
Also, my stupid under mount sink fell off so I got to hang that sucker back up instead of shooting my new pistol

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
I definitely plan to make an identical wash and run it in a straight pot mode so that I can compare the results. Waiting on the oak to do its thing is the real bear in this honey...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Just started my second mash of the HBB!! I did not do an identical mash, I changed things up like grinding my grains a bit more. Not sure how I liked it. It tended to settle to the bottom and cake a bit. But we'll see how the end result comes out. I have 1 gal of Low Wines from my first mash. I'm hoping to do 2 more ferments, strip it, do the spirit then put in my 2L oak cask.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Sounds like a fine plan -- I've gradually worked up to the point that my fermenter produces about three times what my boiler can handle, so each fermenter run gives me all I need for my strip and spirit runs. But that does kind of eliminate the kind of blending you'll be able to do!

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Proofed a jar of rum for the drinks cabinet. I call this one Rum Grappa because, rather than recycling heads and tails during the runs, at the end of a series of rum ferments, I make something using trub, dunder, foreshots, heads, trails and sugar. It tastes pretty good considering it's made out of scraps and sugar and hasn't had time to marry yet. It's spent over three years on wood, so that probably helps.
Also made Edam cheese because the first lot I made got a big thumbs up from the family.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Just started 2 7g rum ferments of 1.5g blackstrap and 5lbs zulka Morena cane sugar. First batch will be a diacetal butter bomb, second is doped with luciene amino acid I'm hoping for a lot of fruity banana esters

Made 2 24 gallon hi-rye bourbon mashes the past 2 days. 64/24/12 corn/unmalted rye/malted barley.
This is my first batch using the $8 corn I bought from the farmer a few months ago - it is certainly cleaner than Tractor Supply whole corn, and half the price. The converted mash had a real nice sweet corn flavor to it.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Long overdue but I now have a pair of much needed SS/copper funnels.
Not pretty but functional, hard wearing and easy to knock up.
Big one with a 32mm stem for the keg and a small one with a 22mm stem for glass demijohns.
The big one I can upend a full gallon jug in and leave it there to drain.
The 22mm I was able to roll over into a nice flange for soldering but the 32mm is thick wall so I cut and fanned it for some surface area.
