Question on ice
Does anyone know how to calculate the temperature effect of a pound of ice on a pound of water? I know it isn't a straight averaging, due to the change in phase.

If I drank my likker on the rocks I might comment that there’s usually rocks left in the glass by the time the likker is in my belly….

Re: Question on ice
This reminds me of a riddle: two people order a whiskey drink, both drinks are poisoned, one dies the other doesn’t why?jonnys_spirit wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 3:57 am If I drank my likker on the rocks I might comment that there’s usually rocks left in the glass by the time the likker is in my belly….
Answer: the poison was in the ice cube and the person that drank slower the ice melted and he drank the poison.

Re: Question on ice
Obviously the proper whiskey drinker lived as he sent the drink back and made them pour a new one neat, as any good whiskey should be consumed.

Re: Question on ice
Well, at least have them pour another one properly but they're going to throw the rocks glass away so I prefer to at least give it an icubes chance in hell

Cheers,
jonny

Re: Question on ice
A pound of ice takes 144 btus to melt.
A btu raises one pound of liquid water 1degree.
So, a pound of ice will cool a pound of water 144 degrees or 144 pounds of water 1 degree.

Likewise it takes 970 btus to vaporize a pound of water.
Going from 80 degrees to 212 is 132 btus per pou d of water. . To boil and vaporize it is another 970 btus.
