From dirt bag to connoisseur

Post by Crash »

Hey so me and a buddy Started running 7-8 years ago and it didn't get very far. Real ghetto rig with shifty solder and a ton of sloppy flour paste. What a dirty mess. Well I always wanted to get into the craft aspect of jt all and decided to give it another go. Read some info here, set up another pot still and fired away. First run came out good for a first run. Here's some details on what I'm working with:

Setup-
Kettle is a turkey fryer pot and the propane base with a 1"1/4 copper pipe going up 18". Then 2 45 degree bends reduced to 7/8" for 22". 1/2" copper coil. I can't remember how long it is but it fits in a 5gal bucket 5 or six coils. Maybe 10ft?

For a mash I used 10lb medium cracked corn and 5lb of sugar in a 5gal bucket and of course topped off with filtered water (of course).

I'd love to get into schnapps territory and use minimal sugar. And as far as making the still better get some 1"3/4 and have a more gradual tapper to a small thump keg and maybe a longer condenser coil.

Thanks for all the info I've learned from you guys and can't wait to add a little back

Welcome Crash
You made me laugh ( in a good way :D ) talking 1” 1/4 , 7/8” and 1” 3/4 .
Some strange size copper you have there . Most folk here use 1” , 1”1/2 , 2”

Maybe you are in a trade that gets you some β€œ non - standard β€œ sizes .

Regardless …… we are a bunch of depraved / deprived fellas ( in my case , I don’t have the time these days so enjoy watching others create ) that like to see what you can build . So look forward to seeing your work .

Welcome to HD Crash! I might’ve gone the opposite direction and ended up at β€œdirt bag”. I hope there’s still some hope :)

Cheers,
