Your about a month behind Me Bill. That's exactly what the island looked like.
I drink so much now,on the back of my license it's a list of organs I need.

My maple is a couple weeks behind other changing trees in our area.

so pretty! Most of our leaves have fallen, except the brown leaves on the oaks. (not very pretty)

Spent a fortnight down around Canberra , Warrnambool and Mt Gambier recently, their spring is way colder than our winter ever is.
No wonder the poor buggers down that way are always grizzling about the weather.
I’m happy to leave Canberra to the pollies and IT contractors :D Though there’s a few craft distilleries there now, including a vanity project for a local surgeon.

My backside is freezing these days; sorta like this bare arsed garden gnome, but without any green grass mattress. I've been learning a bit about “heat pumps” today and am notional about buying one.

(I live in a big old, drafty adobe house. Too remote to get natural gas. If I kept just the bigger of two the butane furnaces lit and blowing constantly, then I could keep about 1/2 the house comfortably warm. But I am too cheap to pay the $800 / month for the butane, that that would necessitate. Electrical space heaters for individual rooms are expensive too).

I am considering installing just one newfangled “mini split” “inverter heat pump” for just the master bedroom right now. If it works, I can add others later.

I know that there are several others on this forum that are more knowledgeable than I, on this subject. I invite anyone to share their experience. I could use some advice.

A few of the many links that I visited today.

Yes winter is coming fast here in the Pyrenees.
I haven't done much distilling this year and feel its almost time I got my shit together for a couple of more washes and runs to address the cold winter months. Just going to do sugar washes and make Pastis and gin to help enjoy these long nights ahead, but first get the firewood sorted for comfort.. Powering the still on gas so outside. Got some sheepskin to keep warm tending that.

When talking to clients about repairs an upgrades to old houses I also recommend starting with more insulation. Depending on your budget that can go on the outside of the house, on the inside of a room, or on you (thick blanket). Every cent spent on insulation will make your existing heating system more efficient and a future heat pump purchase more interesting. If you have a loft space then that's a good place to start.

here in the land of the frozen north....it is not.

if memory serves, been 18 years since a fall this mild, maybe even back to the 70's to be true.
el nino is being kind to us this year, it's still looking like above freezing for another 2 weeks yet (in the day anyway) but we need some precip.

got our fist skiff of snow last night, hardly enough to get out a broom, never mind a shovel.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

We just got out of a half week of freezing. Not been here for 18 years, but certainly it's unusual to have gotten this cold in early December. It even snowed the other day which is generally a late January thing for us (if it happens)!
