4” Modular Question - Plates or Packed
I’m about to build 2 4” modular plated sections for whiskey. I also have a 4”x 36” packed column that I could add on top for neutrals. My question, with everything else being equal (mash, takeoff rate, reflux, etc) would the results be similar with 2 4” plated sections compared to these 2 sections being packed (no plates)?

Thanks Wildcats. I’ve read that thread several times and it’s very helpful. If my goal is one a done whiskey, and the height is the same (in my example 8”), would the flavor carry over be less with the 2 packed sections compared to the 2 plates?

4" plates are driven more gently than 4" packed.
If you ran both of them with everything equal, one or the other wouldn't be happy.

Thanks shadylane... that was deep! Makes a lot of sense too.
I’m starting to realize that I’m a fraud. I’m more concerned with fabricating and tinkering than perfecting the craft and making a better product. Ive got a perfectly fine 3 plate flute that I haven’t put the time in to maximize its results. I need to study more and make more product. Thanks.

I turned my attention to neutral from 10 percent running as quickly as possible. Then I did continuous!!!

99.9% of violinist can't make a violin.
Is the skilled carpenter that can a fraud?
