Morning. I was wondering if anyone ever tried using toasted apple wood in the same manner as oak chips?
From a tree we used to have at the old house. Big green apples. I use the chips for smoking fish and jerky.
Peace

Re: Apple chips
Hi Biffy. I don’t use chips, but I do use small chunks of apple wood for aging spirits. I like apple wood both raw and toasted. Some of my exploits playing around with apple wood can be found in the Fruitwood link in my signature below. I select the amount of wood I use by weight/volume, so you should be able to compare equivalent amounts of wood chips to my chunks.

I haven't used apple yet, but cherry is definitely one I'll do more of. Both toasted and raw. Like Otis, I use cut heartwood seasoned and cut to "fingers" about 5 inches long and .7 inches square so they fit through the neck of a gallon jug even when soaked and swollen.
