Hello, Florida Man here!

Post by SouthernPL »

I've made mead and wine prior, not the best. Looking for advice on obtaining a decent-sized still for rum and whiskey.
I'm pretty handy with soldering copper from my days in plumbing, but I'm also open to buying a still if that's easier.
Seems all these copper attachments I've seen would be fun to make.

Welcome, if you have the skills build. I think it helps you better understand the process. Sounds like you have better skills than I had starting out and I have currently built 4 stills for different purposes. Good luck, take pictures, and document your journey to share with others. We all learn in the process.

Hello FloridaMan…. Only person who can answer the build versus buy is you. I have the skills, not the time so I bought (no regrets), and would buy again. Just don’t buy a vevor based on a lot of feedback on here. Regardless of your choice, welcome, Enjoy the journey and don’t end up as a Florida Man post!

For those who don’t know: https://floridaman.com/
I just read an article about the dangers of drinking that scared the crap out of me.

That’s it. No more reading!

Welcome to HD FloridaMan!

Build if you have the time and will. Do some research on soldering copper and stainless if needed. SS 15gallon keg boiler and cooper plumbing are popular because it works and is economical.

You can get going pretty quick and adding on is a deep rabbit hole :)

Cheers,
Jonny
