Controlling Angel's Share Searching a Proper Alcho Seal when using Mason Jars!!

Post by Greig56 »

Hello out there my fellow stillers! This has been a long long time since I've been back on here!! Crap gets in the way when you're living life! Time has come to get back in the saddle to still again!! I have promised myself I wasn't going to still again till I conquered the issue of replacement or addition of a proper alcoholic stable seal for Mason Jars. Is it a ptf seal? Dunno can't remember!
The regular standard Mason Jar seals work to seal our goodies per se... but if rather when left on the Jars they can't really be counted on to keep the proof of our efforts there within!! Essentially a regular Mason Jar seal does not last 'forever' the seals will leak so we're stuck asking how to address this!
When I was on here a few years now, I know 100% that there was a link to a proper "Plastics" Company that offered basically replacement seals for those normally found as those found on the jar ring plates! The post discussed what normally works and how the abv via what we can call angel's share gets handled -that lasts!!!
I have been re reading here over the last week++ looking for this link! A lot of reading before I've put this post up! The post was about how not all seals last with our alcoholic bevvies and if they work how long one could hope for them to last! The post had a link for these replacement seals the same size normal for a Mason Jar! The Post advised what sort/type of plastics work and don't hold up to alcohol! The page w its links 'source for one piece replacement mason jar lids does work'!

The link that worked back then, advised what 'plastics' work best in not letting the 'vapors' to bypass the seal! The link was for a 'floppy' seal that would work between the jar and the std sealing ring. Anyone out there with info on this???

I use these for aging on glass - http://www.widgetco.com/jar-cork-stoppers-standard" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow . The 3.5" (size 48) fits a 1 gallon large mouth pickle jar.

The link above doesn't work. This is the page for std mason jar lid size: US Plastics

The cork link above goes to a jar size cork. If you need smaller corks for gallon jugs see this page: Widget Co

Another use for thin ptfe sheet is the cannabis industry. They are very thin, < 7 cents each (~$69 per thousand).

It doesn't look promising if I intend finding good alc-proof ptfd Gaskets before starting up man's second oldest profession again!
US Plastics will ONLY send out their shite first-class o/night! Sooo! I am not spending at USPlastics-their replied quote was $30-$35 US Dollars for S&H to ship me here in Canada a $26 order of a measly few reg & larger size gaskets! NOT Happening!!! That's ~$80 CDN...not!!!!
equinoxstainless.com is a Quebec supplier of stainless dairy/brewing "sanitary fittings" & gaskets but only offer silicone. EPDM, or teflon gaskets!
Does anyone out there have any stock of these we could part-out??? We all know for a fact a wee number of these will ship by post for either side of $10!!! To Canada yet!! $0.80 each is what they want for these 02.75" which isn't that high a figure for a doz or two!
Anyone got any we can commiserate on??

Search for
JG Finneran 38-160 PTFE Solid Virgin Cap Liners
I've used them for about 3 years with no issues.

That Equinox Stainless looks like a good place to get gaskets and stuff. Lots of options there.
