Found an old, very well researched cocktail book and in the ingredient list there's a brief bit of info on each.
This was the bit on Bourbon.

2000 distilleries in 1810! That is a hell of a lot of booze from one county...but hay it's Bourbon county, the home of Bourbon .

For a span of 20 years that is pretty impressive growth. For 1 county I'd almost bet every family had a distillery, probably still do.
Neat bit of history Moose.
On a side note. I did some long haul trucking about 20 years ago, and have done several bike trips south of 49th. I've visited, delivered to or driven through 38 different states. Kentucky and Tennessee are the 2 states that really appealed to me. I could retire in a cabin in the hills, not too far from a town and be a happy camper.
