Is there a brand of yeast known to multiply rapidly and leave a healthy corpse over the others. I have time on my hands so I thought if make up some nutrients for the future.

Re: Yeast for nutrients
The few professional wine and brandy makers I've spoken with say to boil plain ole bread yeast.
I wouldn't make it up for future use, parts may oxidize and/or go insert. Just do it while you're preparing your ferment.

There are two types of people in this world.
1. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete information.

Here is a topic that lists an article that explains ways to prepare yeast to be a better nutrient. I haven't tried it. I've just boiled yeast and dumped it into the fermenter. I'm not sure if you would be able to tell if preparing yeast differently actually makes it a better nutrient.

That l have read, thank you. I am putting up yeast strains in the freezer. If I can store yeast there then use it I can't see a problem with dead yeast mixed with some zinc and the B's bits in the freezer. But I figure there must be some yeast that breeds like rabbits. If not I get the cheapest.

Do you mean B vitamins? I weighed out X number of B vitamins to get an average weight per in grams. I then grind a couple bottles of B vitamins into a powder using a coffee grinder and store it in a jar. When I start a sugar wash for instance, I just weigh out each ingredient as needed as per the recipe. I don't think I've ever mixed and stored ingredients for future use.Tōtōchtin wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 4:18 pm That l have read, thank you. I am putting up yeast strains in the freezer. I've used simple yeast boiling and it works well....I often add a little complex nutrient or barley malt. This is for sugar washes....if you use cereal mash it is not necessary in my opinion.

I am building up supplies for a bunch of rum washes and some neutrals. Whiskey is going to cost me 16 bucks per liter to make.Thats more than Very Old Barton delivered. So I need to play with melaza and panocha first as it is more affordable.
