forgot to add turbo carbon....
hello!
I just did my first batch of wash. i used classic 6 turbo yeast added to 23L of water and 7kg sugar.
BUT I FORGOT to add the turbo carbon.
it has been 7 days now since i pitched my yeast. should i add the turbo carbon now? should i still use the turbo clear? have i ruined my batch and need to start over?
from what i read i will steer clear of turbo yeast in the future. but for now id like to save this batch if i can.
advice greatly appreciated!

Re: forgot to add turbo carbon....
Turbo carbon does stuff all in my opinion anyway so don't sweat it .
Its meant to help remove some of the "off flavours" during fermenting .
You are better doing a tomatoe paste wash next time for sure .
As it only uses 5 kg of sugar , it doesn't stress the the yeast so much so you don't get the bad flavours being produced in the first place ....... sure , you don't get so much alcohol per batch but it is much nicer
So if you have carbon , you are better to use it to filter your spirit as it will remove more bad taste that way

Re: forgot to add turbo carbon....
Hi, This carbon you add at the start is new afaik - The carbon used to be added at the end to clear it I think. Whether it's the same stuff I don't know - I'd just chuck it in - can't really do any harm and you'll never use it again if you stop using turbo - so chuck it in

Re: forgot to add turbo carbon....
thank you for your help. for this batch i will add the turbo carbon now. let it sit for 6 hours or so. and then add the turbo clear.
in the future i will NOT use turbo yeast etc. being a rookie i wanted to use the still as the instructions stated for the first time anyhow.
i should be running the still tomorrow!!!!

The activated carbon will absorb nasties
Make sure you filter the carbon from the wash before running it.
You wouldn't want to boil the nasties back out of the carbon while running it in the still.

Sounds like that's your first wash/ferment, I would consider that your sac run. Don't worry about the flavors since you will be throwing that batch down the drain. Good luck on your future batches, good to see that you have started your reading and learning.

Hola Fine people of the world!
My question about Still spirits Carbon is....can you add it after fermentation and still achieve the same effectiveness? I will of course add turbo clear after the turbo carbon and let sit for a few days then siphon off the clear. Any opinions are most def welcome good or bad...I love you all! You all make this world great!!

Save your money, make clean washes such as Shadys Sugar Shine, distill and make good cuts, you won't need all of the still spirits stuff.

Re: forgot to add turbo carbon....
Lots of good advice here.
Takeaways:
Make sure before consuming the first batch from your still that you have cleaned it thoroughly, and that you have done your sacrificial runs. If this doesn't sound familiar, go to the bottom of this page, and spend some time reading everything in the 'required reading' area.
Turbo yeast is meant to maximize alcohol potential, but it typically produces a ferment that results in stressed yeast and produces off flavors that you won't enjoy. A healthy ferment will result in something that tastes good, and doesn't require any carbon filtering.
Find a recipe in the "tried and true" section of the forum, and follow it exactly. You are guaranteed good results in most cases.
