Hello from behind the maple curtain

Post by The Maple Curtain »

Hey, what's up.

I am just a guy north of Toronto, Canada, chasing the craft.

I've read your rules and I think I am ready to post.

My wife bought me a pot still for Christmas a couple years ago and I was almost at the point of "f$%# this, I can't figure this out" but I watched a yt video about cuts and a light went on! I think I can make good spirits!

I've been making Ted's fast fermenting vodka with good results. Thanks

What do I want to make? I want to make something that rivals the commercial distillers. I don't know what that is yet. Right now I am just trying to make a drinkable vodka.

Inflation + alcohol taxes are totally out of control in Canada. We just returned from St Martin and a 1 litre bottle of Stoli vodka was $10 USD ($13.50 CDN). The same bottle in my province is $42.60 CDN. Source here https://www.lcbo.com/en/stolichnaya-vodka-225243 :esurprised:

I am running a 2 gal Vevor pot still on a 110 VAC induction hot plate. I would like to upgrade to a 220 volt unit. I am not doing any filtering yet through activated charcoal but I would like to see what this does.

I do a stripping run and then a second distill run and split to run into about 8 parts (jars) so I can decide how much heads and tails ( if any ) I want to add to the hearts before proofing down to 45 or 50%.

A also make wine and am starting a beer kit soon.

Cheers
