That's true but City Fruit in Seattle has 3 presses they rent out. 3 day rentals for $65 Fri-Mon or $50 Tue-ThurNZChris wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 11:20 pmA good scratter is not something that is easy to build, find, or borrow. Which isn't terrible if you don't have a place to store stuff.

Yes Cranky, I know! I read your post... I live several hours south, in a different state. So I am not sure I will be a good fit! I didn't want reply to your original post to avoid muddying it up. Also I am very busy in the Summer and Fall with fire season, hunting, and fishing if I get a trip in. I hope yo find someone.cranky wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 5:17 pmYou knowThe Booze Pipe wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 11:48 am I just received a 5.8 gallon stainless steal fruit press directly from China, purchased through Amazon. The same fruit press was being offered from multiple "sellers" at varying prices.
I found this one $50-100 less then any other. total price shipped was $150! I plan to use it for straining/drying mash grains. If I end up with time and a grinder it'll be great for fruit.
It's actually really nice, heavy gauge steel, quality welds. Only thing I've noticed so far is a bit of rust inside the drain spout on the outer pot.
If anyone is interested I can pass on the info for ordering.
It won't get tested until winter.I am trying to find someone in the PNW that wants to pick a crap load of free apples and am willing to loan out my apple chopper to the right people

Got a call from my boss on Saturday morning, asking if a wanted a free still. Seeing as how I’m not one to turn down a good deal, I of course said yes. Only catch was, I had to go and get it then, and I had to take everything. So 20mins later and here’s what I had.
65L Brewzilla with everything.
90L Tote full of parts, 2”,3” and 4” tri clamp bits.
Essentially doubled my current gear set.
Keg still with 3500w element, 4” column port and 2” fill port. (Edit: Also has controller attached and another port for a second element.)65L Brewzilla with everything.

Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?
Not exactly hobby related but He'll yes I did.
So I live on a small acreage out of town, in the MD or county as it's commonly called.
There has been a natural low area, ditch, swale, running diagonally across my property since , well forever.
This low spot in my yard and improper drainage along the ditch on my south boundary has caused overland flooding on my property as well as several neighbour's for ever during spring run off and heavy rains.
So the county decided to trench a drainage ditch on my west boundary diverting excessive water directly down to the lake instead of following ditches along roads.
As a result there was a huge pile of dirt from the excavation. They asked me during planning stages if I wanted the dirt.
Absolutely I'll take the fill.
So this morning buddy shows up with a big skid steer. We have a good chin wag, he is moving all the dirt I need into the ditch running through my yard to level it all up. We are talking about 2m deep x 15m wide x almost 100m long.
It would have cost me thousands of $ to do that. Trucking in fill and contracting equipment to move it around.
Sweet. Happy I was home this morning.
Cheers.

Got it free! A local pro snagged this for me. It's a little old but it was used in his whiskey mash, voted the favorite by consensus.

Bradster you can get GA and high temp liquids from these guys in Penticton

Their website is a dumpster fire without a proper search tool and format errors everywhere but they have what you need.

Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?
I don't know if this is a smoking deal for someone or not but unfortunately it's not for me
Hopefully someone here can use this.
Someone near the north end of Federal Way Wa has the following for FREE
The grains were accumulated some time after 2020 but have been sitting on a shelf for a couple years. I don't see any bugs or mold but can't swear to it.
The list of items is
35 lbs of random malts...probable 6 row but can't be positive...already ground and ready to go.
13.5 lbs stone ground cracked corn...probably organic 1 can (42 oz) of Safeway instant oatmeal 5 boxes- Barbara's Morning Oat Crunch cereal...If I recall this makes a pretty decent cereal wash. 2 Boxes of Cheerios that expired in 2018...but do Cheerios really expire
I might be willing to deliver it for you without going too far ( Federal Way, Des Moines, Seatac, Burien, Kent, Auburn, maybe as far as Muckleshoot on certain days, Possibly as far as Fife on certain days)
There is also currently a bunch of Tequila bottles in the front yard that might be able to be had, if they don't get snatched up by someone passing by, also for free. There's also a 30 gallon fermenting barrel...also Free.
If you want it PM me.

Not that big of a deal, but I got a Crystal Head vodka bottle for free today while helping out a relative to clean out a garage from one of their properties. It's missing the cork, but I've always wanted one of these bottles.

Nice find. As MM states it would make a great display bottle. I would have no room in my booze cabinet for a bottle of that shape.

I've been looking for a stainless 55 gal drum to use as a fermenter for quite some time. I stumbled on a fellow selling 2 of these 200L jacketed tanks for $400 each. He was going to give them both to me for $650, but I could only fit one in my small truck, and it was too long of a drive to go back and get the second one LOL.
It has a 1-1/2" tri clamp fitting in the bottom for a drain, and a Lid with a bunch of tri clamp connections, a CIP ball and a huge permanently attached coil.

Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?
I saw an ad for some very clean 5 gallon carboys, and when I got there the person had 10 of them.. as well as a couple 10 gallon primaries, a bottle drying rack a full starters brewing kit, 4 hydrometer, and a 5 gallon pail of other goodies.... all for free.
Behind the supplies were a stack of about 30 3 gallon square white bins with sealed lids full of things like powder milk, and various beans, flour, sugar corn meal various flours, beans.. a lot of beans... and other dry goods, the labels were all 3-5 years old and the homeowner said the contents were all vacuum sealed in mylar bags inside the square pails... she has been using the flour and it was fine... it had been at a deceased family members home and when they had tried to donate it to a local food bank they were unable to accept it.
I left with 125lbs of corn meal and sugar in hermetically sealed packaging.. and 25lbs of popping corn..... trying to imagine what else was in the originsal owners "bunker", but if the guy liked brewing and popcorn I imagine we would have got along fine.

We have one that size at work, it was purchased "On the cheap" (Chinese) for a project as it's not pressure regulations tested.
It was £16,000.
I would have hired a van to go collect that second one!

Great score, I think I would have rented a uhaul trailer and bought both. You could have easily recouped the rental cost. I am sure another member on the forum would have jumped at the opportunity to split the cost and bought the other one!
