hi I'm new here

Post by myddboss »

45 yr old from aus
Just bought my first still a month ago
Vevor 50ltr pot with thumper
It's not working as advertised

I jumped in head first and tried to learn on the go, as the lads say "bite off more than you can chew and chew like ****"

I'm just gaining experience and learning the craft as much as possible, I'd like to distill high quality gin and vodka type spirits for consumption (my partner LOVES gin")

I've hit a few snags and could use some advice

Looking forward to chatting with you lot

Hello and welcome!! I also started with the Vevor (5 gal) and it does NOT work as advertised, but it will work with some easy modifications. Steve Broady has a nice thread on how to make some changes. After a year of using the Vevor I got a better still and can't believe the difference!!

also a pot still, like the one you have is more for whiskey and rum. Some of them come with baskets so you can make a gin type, but I'm not sure how well that works for making a nice gin. For making vodka I think you need a totally different type of still.

There is some mandatory reading at the bottom of the page, start there and then keep going. Enjoy the ride!!
