I am so curious as to why an ancient culture that knows so much about wine, grapes and alchemy since the beginning of recorded time has not had a more prominent roll on the modern global stage?

I don't want to get political, but what forces have placed France and Italy as the standard for grapes?

Is it all marketing?

Maybe a topic best discussed on a dedicated thread?

In Islam, drinking any kind of alcohol is forbidden, and wine and other type of alcoholic production was never formalized, codified, industrialized, or scientific, so we werr never able to represent our products and lost global branding.

Thank you, officially, the production of all kinds of wine and alcoholic distilled products is illegal and punishable, but in the context of society and in practice, the government and the police do not conduct inspections and investigations to detect crimes unless someone appears drunk in public places or attempts to buy and sell. We have stores here that freely sell only raisins and dates and by-products for fermentation, or industrial manufacturers who make traditional and modern distillation devices, and all this is done in front of the government and there is no confrontation at this level. Be prepared about making a raisin brandy and look for sellers of raisins around your place that have been dried naturally, that is, in the sun or in the shade. We do not use raisins that have been converted from fresh grapes into raisins with sulfur compounds. This is our red line.

That sounds very similar to what we have going on here, out of sight, out of mind, don't sell, don't tell and you'll probably be alright.

The poster continued to explain how some of the men would wait / linger in the background sort of eyeballing the items that could be fermented. He went on to explain how no discussion really took place but felt that the men seemed to give each other a "knowing " look as they would appear to be "unenthusiastically" evaluating the potential fermentation quality of any given ingredient.
Basically trying to not draw attention to their underlying enthusiasm about potential yeild or the like. Kind of like the swan on the pond looking calm and graceful above the water line. But kicking vigorously below the waterline where no one can see.

the buying and selling of all fermenteble
materials, wholesale and retail, has always been completely legal.
Only wine and other types of alcoholic beverages should not be bought and sold, and as long as a person makes and drinks it at home, there is no problem.
In Iran, sellers of fermentable materials have official stores and even Instagram pages, for example, see the link below.
