Hiding from farming friends during spring planting.
It's that time of the year again. Many of my friends and neighbors are farmers.
They think because I'm retired, they could put me to work. Long story short, I'm lazy and don't want to do anything other than my hobbies so I've been hiding from them. Maybe if there was a really critical need, I'd drive a tractor for a couple days but the weather has been good this year so far.

I've got an offer. The pay is terrible, the hours are long, injuries are likely, but there is free beer if you survive.
I have a small vineyard and garden and getting help any time of year is nearly impossible. Grape harvest I can get help If I have a BBQ and a keg of beer.

I don't blame you at all shady, that's your right. It's called retirement for a reason!shadylane wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:55 pm It's that time of the year again. Many of my friends and neighbors are farmers.

Trouble is, if you're handy and hard working, they will never leave you alone.

Thats a hard one Shady . Being involved and feeling useful keeps you youthful . Whats your body telling you ?
No shame in sticking up a “I’m retired , piss off sign” if thats what you need .
Just because you can’t play footy anymore , doesn’t mean you can’t be the ball boy or the orange boy .
Keep involved if you want but you don’t need to bust your boiler anymore .
……… thats for the young'n s

If they grow asparagus then, sure, I'd ignore their calls too. If they grow corn ... I'd be available.

I thought I retired in 2005 but since then our son had a daughter and now we babysit 5 days a week. Along with that he is raising chickens so of course I have been called upon to build a large chicken coop.
I hear you Shady.

The easiest way to get out of work is to be bad at it.
Here's to alcohol, the cause of, and solution to, all life's problems.

That's my downfall, when doing a job pride forces me to give the boss more than his moneys worth.
My claim to fame has been to train the new guy to the best of his ability. Other folks I've worked with always seemed to keep tricks of the trade to themself. I figured to get the newbie up to speed so they could absorb part of my work.

I thought I would toss this I'm here as it's so fitting. I'm on my way home from the mts. My knees are glowing one had a TKR 4 months ago and my other as soon as we finish this run of about 600 lt. Lacking is the the field of poppies.

It took me a moment to figure out your cooking agave to make mescal or tequila.

Re: Hiding from farming friends during spring planting.
Well I recommend letting the phone go to voicemail ... never return a call before 10PM and always answer the door in your bathrobe with a beer in your hand..... chances are they will show up early.. do if they make their way in the house, sit them down at the table and pour a couple three finger drinks!!h if that doesn't scare them off crank up the music and get out the cards, because they are probably crappy farmers- but fun to party with!
Just kidding, it is tough saying no to freinds and neighbours.
