Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.

Finishing Up My First new Still Builds

Post by Rollingmenace »

Not my first still but probably my first still in 20+ years..
Im building 2 different boiler setups with old beer kegs nor is a 15.5gallon and a 7.5 gallon.. The 15 Gal will be a 5500W element and the 7 Gal is running a 2500W element. Im waiting on my controller to arrive it should be here in a week or so. Built a 2” column to run as a pot still. Also constructed a 24” liebig condenser . The plan is to use a combination of well water to get started and a 55gal barrel with a fountain pump for my condensing water… if i can just use the stored water in barrel thatwould be the main goal but i do have a 550ft artesian well to utilize if needed . The other still head I’m in a bit of a turmoil i do have a 4 plate bubbler column that my thought was to top with a boba head or possibly just a 2” head styled like my pot head to utilize the Liebig i built. I Will finish up this weekend wiring my still space with 208V to run the stills i have it there just need to put it in a J-box and build the drop for the cord.
Once i get everything completed i will start my first two 5 Gallon washes. Plan on doing the sweetfeed wash as i have 30lb already here and ready to go.

Looks good Rollingmenace  That should produce a fine product.
Don't forget to do a vinegar and sacrificial run through first...

Nice builds. I just got a similar plated column in 3". I looked at doing a boka on it but Im almost positive ive changed my mind to run it as a CCVM. Let us know how she runs!

Assuming you meant boka, I would think that would be a combination that would be difficult to run.

Looks good, im on a well also. While running my keg in pot mode using a garden pump in a 30 gallon barrel it gets pretty warm, 100+, i end up dumping it and letting it refill to use on next weeks run, was thinking of getting a 50gl for it and see if I dont have to dump it.
Ive recently completed setting up and running my 2 inch ccvm, it uses so little water I let it drain on the drive way.
I think I'll go home and fire up my still, it might not make me feel better but, I bet it will
