Hi All,
Today i encountered a problem:
For almost a week now my latest sugarwash is bubbling away. But this afternoon when i shook the bucket it felt heavier than normal, so i took a look at it.
It was thick and slimy, it looked like wallpaper-glue.
What happened ? I had never seen this before.
I used Alcotec 8 after instructions on the package. All materials were well cleaned before use.
Only thing i can think of is that the yeast was old. It had been lying for a few months, but the "best before" date on the package says 2006.
I have stirred it, and after that it was bubbling again like the days before.

p.s.
like i said it is fermenting now again / still. but will the result be safe to distill or are there totally different thing being formed in that bucket ?

Personally, unless it is a huge batch, I'd dump it. Or maybe just let it finish fermenting, and use a sulfite, and some super-Kleer, to see if that helps settle some of the slimeys.LeftLaneCruiser wrote:Well it smelled ok.
And it didn't taste bad either.
In fact it smelled and tasted just like a normal sugar-wash.

Thanks for the replies.
I also e-mailed the question to the Alcotec company, well at least the Dutch representative, and asked if they had ever heard of such and if they had some kind of explanation.
Today i got the answer in two sentences:
It is probably infected with some kind of bacteria, so dump it. Make sure you clean and sterilise all materials well.
But i think i'll stick to your suggestions.
