ELECTRIC turkey fryer
Hey I just thought I'd share this, since I haven't seen it anywhere else. Home depot has a 28 quart, electric turkey fryer. The best part is that it has a temperature setting from 80-400some(F). It's great and it has 3 holes already in the glass top for putting a copper pipe over, and sealing the others.

I didn't see it anywhere on thier website. I saw all of the propane ones that they have...and I saw this electric smoker... but that was it.

I'll try to take pics, it might not be on the site but they had like 3 at the home depot near me.

there you go!
it's that but all chrome and only $80.
BTW I just tasted my sugar, water, and bakers yeast mash, and it tastes a LOT like budweiser. Actually its fairly good. I used a strain from red star, I think I had 4.52kg of sugar, 55g of yeast and water in a 5 gallon fermenter.
Also at home depot they have these amazing plastic kerosene tubs. They look like kegs and are blue with a screw top and a handle. 5 gallons and are GREAT fermenting bins.

Wow,,that is a nice lookin fryer, and definitly would make a decent boiler. 55gr of yeast?? That is a lot for a 5 gallon batch, I usually use about 21gr of red star. That is why I hate budweiser....it taste like a fermenting sugar wash .lol

Yeah sorry the joke wasn't worded better, I just had surgury and was very tired. But yeah it was just that, a joke. Anyways my friend nows a lot about sealant. And the good part is the metal ring around the top goes inside the can, so just put a little plastic o-ring like thing around it and it'll seal.

I've seen it done.AkCoyote wrote:An easy way to check for leaks is to get it to boiling temperature and check all of the seals with a BIC lighter. On second thought, maybe that's not a very good idea.

as far as I can tell it can't actually blow up the still to light up a vapor leak.. but since alcohol flame is invisible in sunlight and a serious leak can blow a six foot jet of burning vapor off to the side of your still... it can result in an explosion by setting fire to everything around the still.
the guys who I sat in with who checked for leaks with a burning stick insisted that a flaming leak was actually less dangerous than an unlit leak since an ongoing leak vents potentially explosive quantities of vapor into the air while a flame consumes the fuel as it escapes.
it made logical sense but it still made me nervous.
their process in any case was to go over the running rig with a fire to find leaks and then slap a big gob of flour paste on any jets they lit up.
needless to say they did not run in the sunshine.
