I thought I'd got to this post in the off topic section, which is why is assumed news that our govt is actively mining private data(identical to the letters being discussed above) would be appropriate. I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes.

reading here all the goings on, i found out about the bad blood with HS when i posted a link to his boilers, and was kindly informed... i understand, but had already been a customer for my boiler... so the other day this email showed up and i posted it minus the extra wordage regarding their backlog of boilers... and wanting to share with the collective here, as this topic is pretty hot right now and as i watch the news everyday i see a trend regarding our privacy specifically, i thought it would be relevant to pass along what they said in that bulk email...

hope there is no confusion regarding the source of this wordage... it wast me i just passed along what i received. :econfused:
now i feel paranoid. more about loosing respect here than uncle sam storm trooping my house

i have seen some other posters that seemed like they had the sheeps clothing of some poster in Europe while posting video clips that were HS posts on youtube. HMMM.... ostracization is powerful and painful medicine.

I don't think you have anything to worry about here. Right about the same time you posted the email that you got the question was raised whether or not anybody had gotten a notice from HBS. I saw the full email notification from them on another forum which said the exact thing that you posted plus the info about the boilers. I would say many were glad to see what they sent out. I know you have heard the saying you have nothing to worry about, when you actually do. In this case you can believe you have nothing to worry about.

I still haven't gotten any email or any other notification from HBS. I don't know why anyone else would have and I didn't. I've bought just about everything they make/sell except the 50+ gallon boilers and the 25 gallon conical fermenter. Luckily Brewhaus started this thread. Looks like I need to redirect some of my business. Sorry for stirring up shit everyone!

I think that might have been a twinge of sarcasm.

Thanks for explaining that bd. At first I thought I screwed up typing or something. I had to go back and reread what I typed

We all know distilling is not legal. Just being in this forum gives the gooberment the means to track us with our IP address. Everyone here is probably already on a list. So why are ya'll getting your panties in a wad now?

True. That's what the still sellers should have said, instead of handing over the names and addresses of their customers. I think there's a bit of latent anger being expressed here. That's kinda how I'm reading it.

I dropped by the local home brew store today. We got to chatting about this.

Now while I am in Canada and really dont need to worry about the TTB, it doesnt take much of a stretch to imagine that the Canada Revenue Agency would get wind of it and start asking the same questions around here.

I originally bought a T500 from these local guys.... (and yes I have to admit they got me started with turbo's..... but I'm over all that now and now I have been Schooling them on distilling, after reading on this site, I now know they actually know nothing about distilling.)

They did have the forethought that selling stills could be problematic, and as such put the sales code for the stills as miscellaneous items and thus hides the transaction amongst all the various trash and trinkets in the store. They didnt record the serial numbers of the still either...... They are not a manufacturer just an importer as they get them directly from the manufacturer in NZ.

Ini the meantime, Ive sold all the components to some guys with busted T500's.

All my current gear I built myself, so even if Revenue Canada come's a snooping..... well they won't be looking for me. :eugeek:

Here's to hoping things go well for our southern neighbors.

Too bad forums and the internet didn't exist in the early 70's. I wonder if we would be having this very same discussion or one very very similar just before Jimmy Carter fixed ONE problem to all of us on October 14, 1978. Damn it would be nice if the next Pres legalized home distillation in much the same manner - its been 35 years. Moderators - I am not advocating particular politics which is against forum policy but in this country WE the People can solve this issue with our collective vote.

By law, they have to hand the info over if the Feds ask for it. Just as they do if "they" are a legal fuel alcohol manufacturer, gun dealer, etc. That's part of being legal, having to open your doors and records whenever asked. You would have to do the same thing if you were making fuel.

Did you need to be so obscure ?
I had to Google it because I had no idea what the hell you were talking about.

For those who also are completely confused by the Jimmy Carter reference.
I cut and pasted the following.

"From the Association of Brewers:
On October 14, 1978, President Carter signed House Resolution 1337. Senate Amendment 3534 to that resolution called for equal treatment of home beer brewers and home winemakers. This law allowed for brewing up to 100 gallons per adult or up to 200 gallons per household per year. "

His location also lists BC, so him not being an american, yet expecting him to have knowledge of some obscure US ex prez, based on a date from 30 years ago, is a pretty steep expectation.

If your name is already on the list you might as well sign the petition to make it legal..

Would legalization be a federal issue or a state issue?
