1/4.

Can dump fores easy peasy and I also collect a predetermined amount of heads before I close it and drop in the alcometer.

Pretty easy at this point as my recipe is almost always the same.

That sure is purdy KS! I just did my first alcohol run in mine this evening and boy am I happy. :D I had some 100 proof sittin around here and thought I would give that a go since I'm sure to be making more real soon. I mixed it with equal parts water and fired her up. I managed to hit 91% on my first run with it and all three plates bubbled like mad! I'm in love. Thank you OD, KS and others for giving me the idea and want to build this baby, I'm so glad I did. I'm gonna get ready and check my UJSM to see if it'll be ready to run in the morning. Did I mention I'm happy?

1/4 was kinda cute,,,,,,,and cheaper. Wanted to to keep latent fluid at a minimum while collecting hearts.

Get some practice Moonshine Dave and you'll likely bump that up few points. But if your a potstiller at heart and she was pissin away......then it's all gravy anyway.

It's extremely satisfying every time I see a report of a Flute build achieving the same result as I achieved with the original Magic Flute.

Congratulations Dave. :D :D :D :D

As well as my never ending flute build I'm working on a another project, it's a 3 inch 2 or 3 plate "poor mans flute" that is coming along quite nicely, it has 2 perf plates with minimal reducers and no sight glasses.

I'm kinda flying with the idea you can run this rig to the desired ABV, hopefully around 65% ABV by using a parrot and adjusting the cooling management to get the desired ABV.

It has an external cooling coil, centering ring, shotgun product condenser and cost very little to build... it will be mounted to a keg.

Should have progress pics tomorrow.

Cheers.

OD,

It is fairly simple really, and wont be modular...... yet very cost effective if it works.

The main thing I'm trying to figure out is how to make the centering ring double as a down comer to the top plate with a weir, it will work I think, just gotta stare at it for a bit in the morning then solder it.

Hey guys I was walking through one of the hardware stores around here the other day. Of course looking for stuff to use in my build. It's one of those stores that has just about everything you will ever need. Just finding it is the fun part. Prices are really high. So I normally don't go there. Any way I found these in with the copper / brass fittings. They were to cool not to buy some. They call them nut bonnets. The sizes they had on them are 3/8, 5/8, and 3/4. I don't know how they came up with those measurements because they actually measure 1/2, 3/4, and 7/8 at the base. I guess they could be smashed on to the size nuts they indicated. Ive done some Google searches and haven't found anything like them? I thought they mite make some neet little bubblers for a 4" plate. Whatcha think?

Hi Guys does anyone have actual drawings for their flutes/bubble cap column showing sizes etc. This would be of great assistance to myself and anyone else contemplating a build. Any offers realy much appreciated.

Everyone has built it a little different and still experimenting. So your best bet is to do yourself a favor and read through this whole thread. I know its a long read but all the info is here. You may get sidetracked to one of the guys build threads but come back and keep reading this one to. Ive gone through it twice and still find stuff I missed. There are some drawings and patterns along the way that will help you out.

I'm no machinists but I can do some basic stuff with a lathe. That being said I learned last night that even the most basic stuff with copper is beyond my abilities. I'm not trying to make anybody cringe but imagine my reaction when the bit gouged in and riped the reducer right out of the chuck.
I got it straightened out but its got a couple dents that I really didn't want.

Have a great day. Valk

Very nice, KS.
Your product pictured is among the very best on the cutting edge of hobby distillation as developed here on Home Distiller Forums.
How nice the design contributors can see the concepts in your excellent workmanship.
It's a privilege for me to be here, darn near in a front row seat, watching all this come about.

Congrats KS! I did my first real run today with mine. Other than a couple of surprise leaks around two of the sight glasses I didn't have any trouble. This thing almost runs itself once you get it set. I love it.

I am curious about the temp probes. does any body have any pictures of the way they have their temp sensor mounted?

I am also wondering about thermowels? some of you have said that you have 'blind' temp ports which makes me assume your using a type of thermowell, how accurate is the temp reading in a thermowell/blind port?

by thermowell i am meaning that there is a tube, sealed at the end (on the inside of the column) that the temp probe sits in and is protected from any liquid. hope that clears things up?

I just use a piece of 1/4"tube which accepts the probe of my thermometer, I seal the end of the tube with hard solder before fitting it to the column.

right now I am doing the same as OD. I think it is just personal preference. I also make what I call a rain bonnet over my 1/4" thermo-well to keep reflux from cooling it. It may not make any difference but it makes me feel better and i know it does not hurt anything.

I was thinking about using 1/2 npt type of temp port and using a stub out as the sealed pipe. but i am having a huge issue locating a digital thermometer that has a 1/2 npt connector.

i have been looking for one of those "brewmometer" temp gauges. like what they use on the brew kettles for home brew beer but again, digital. but apparently they either dont exist or i am too inept to locate one.

anybody ever seen one? or know where i can get one?

Help I have information overload. I been reading about the perforated plates and they started out with one eighth inch holes. Then I think the last I read was using two sizes below that. When I download the template its telling me to use one sixteenth inch holes. Maybe I've just got it all twisted around. I've read so many threads that I don't know where to look for the latest evolution of this. Would someone help me out here.

Thanks. Valk
