Ya it was Buffalo trace, I should have known better then to drink something that can be bought in a half gallon. I guess I'm a whiskey snob, wish I wasn't it would be cheaper and easier.

I'm pretty sure that "full charred oak" is in the bourbon standard. Woodford uses oak barrels they make themselves.

I remember when they use to sell "old Ezra" , came in a wooden box branded with the name ...15 years old

I'm pretty late to this discussion, but I was sad to see that Blanton's didn't get mentioned until page 5. Thank you raildog for inviting them to the party. Everyone's taste is different, but Blanton's is my favorite after trying more than 40 different bourbons. Every friend I've introduced it to is hooked on it. It truly is the original single barrel bourbon. I've actually collected all the horses to spell BLANTONS. That's 8 bottles down at home in the 4 years since I discovered it. Only God knows how many more I've consumed at bars.

My other favorite bourbons:

• Jefferson's Presidential Select. It's an 18 yr, and priced like it, but it's amazing. Their Jefferson's Reserve is good also and more reasonably priced.
• Willit Pot Still Reserve. This is a true small batch craft distillery. You can find more about them at: http://www.kentuckybourbonwhiskey.com/whiskies.html
• Basil Hayden (made by Beam) is a good balanced bourbon. It's cousin, Bookers got the bad attitude of the family, but is also uniquely delicious.
• Knob Creek (also by Beam) is my stand-by bourbon. It always works, though it's not as smooth or tasty as Jefferson's or Blanton's.

I'm actually touring the Bourbon Trail with 11 of my closest friends in March for my bachelor party. We'll be visiting Makers, Woodford, Buffalo Trace, Kentucky Distillers and Beam. I expect I'll find some new favorites on that trip. I'm just glad some of the guys are driving so they can bring back my investment.

Have a great time on the trail. Some of us in the area take it for granted. I want to take the craft tour sometime soon should be fun.
