I'm planning on using both, Crow. I haven't settled out the proportions yet, but I have 5 gallons of molasses and 12 pounds of panela to work with. I think I could just dump it all in one batch (?), but I still need to do a little more research on that. Would it be better to use one or the other and not combine them?

Since Molasses is whats left over after refining sugar cane to make table sugar, I guess if you mix it back with table sugar and water youre back to Panela? But hell I dunno. Maybe LWTCS or Piss or one of our other rum guru's can chime in .

For me, frankly, what they do and use when they process and refine sugar is probably not pretty, so Ill stick with Panela made in huts in the forest in Columbia.

if you look at the analysis of This food grade molasses you will see some deficiencys so I would imagine that stock feed blackstap is a whole lot worse but I don't know that

OK, I didn't know what a Liebig condenser was so I looked it up on wikipedia. Liebig was a 19th century German chemist who pretty much invented mirrors, marmite and Oxo. "My ideas" about yeast are only 186 years old! Liebig's law of the minimum -http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebig%2 ... he_Minimum , which states that an organism's growth is limited by the nutrient which is in least supply.

Commonly referred to as a limiting factor, used in all sorts of ways to stunt growth, in all sorts of creatures.

I'm going to assume you are taking the piss Gal ole son but that is not what is a Liebig condenser  , here this link covers about 90% of the condensers used in distillation Lab condensers

...Walter White/Hiesenberg gets drunk thread..lol
Galeo: i too have lab experience and figured it would be a leg up in this hobby...it can be, but only to a point. i know mg/mol and mg/ml convo doesnt get spoken a whole lot.
distilling is a craft of innovation, more than science....all my yeast studies circled mostly around the C.albicans..i leave my text books out side the still room, same as scientists' leaves their Bible out of the laboratory.
