Cool let me know how you like them. Like the sight glass idea! Good luck on the whiskey run. Hopefully going to get some time to cut the bottom out tomorrow. Then is all easy going from there. I will post all the pics I can of course.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
I'm looking forward to seeing the bottom come off.
Got most of the whiskey run last night. Will be finishing it in a few minutes. Should have it done by 1 ish. Will get to modify the boka jut wont get to do a run till tomorrow as I'll have to do sac runs again after modifying.
Oh. I have 2.5 gallons of high proof fores and heads for the sac run for both boiler and column when we get to it.
I'm going to have to pick up a few brazing rods for making the easy flanges. Other than the pink ones. Which rods wl work beat with these tanks?

Harris saftey silv seems the stuff to go to. But any silver lead free food safe rod those torches will run. The flux is what makes or breaks.

Rgr. It came with a few rods but there is no label for the rods so I won't use them.

Just a thought before I forget.
Here's another way to do what I've been doing.
Use a bain marie and a separate water boiler.

Yak, Looks like using steam to heat the wash as well as the jack, I guess since the steam gernerator need an amount of water for a run? Otherwise could run out?

To separate the steam injection from the bain marie heated jacket.yakattack wrote:What do you mean shady?

That way steam could be injected before or without the bain marie being heated to the boiling point.
On a side note, several bain marie mash cooker/fermenters could be used for steam injection stripping, with only one higher pressure steam generator.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
Why would I want to run without he bain marie though? If my theory and math is correct (and I could be way out in left field here, ) running them in conjuction should increase efficiency. My jacket has 1/3 the capacity of the boiler itself so I won't run dry.
I agree that a hp steam generator could run multiple strippers, but at hobby size it would be over kill. But for a micro scale completely feasible.
Explain your thinking please
Yak

I'm just thinking out loud about alternative options
The bain marie would be used on all of them.

In Shady's picture two separate heat sources are being used. It can put twice the power in. One or both of those boilers could be heated with gas in addition to, or instead of, the electric as well.

Other cutting the heat up time I'm not sure of the benefit in this application. I do not doubt the advantage, just the application.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
The only thing I can see is running as a thumper if you have enough clear mash to run it that way. At the very least it's an easy configuration to make with what I have now should I ever need to.

Sweet. Think we can get 4 plates for the shotgun and Delflag out of it as well. If not then they will be copper.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
Since the steam injection doesn't begin until about 2/3 into the run.
The water jacket could have been smaller than I made it.
But it's better to have to much water than it is to run the boiler dry and burn out the elements.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
Got the final pieces today....the two four inch ferrules the copper for the fill and drain ports, the copper for the sparging coil. We went over some lid fastening ideas and settled on welding it on. Moved from hard brazing to MIG. Now just got to get to the shop and start makin noise.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
I will probably head to the shop Tuesday morning. Torch the legs off then grind the bottom off to minimise the amount of crap that gets into the jacket. Then mark out the plate for the bottom and some extras.

Re: My new boiler. Time to modify.
sorry about that boys! Sleep turned out to be more important than I thought... These are pretty well all the pieces. Tomorrow Im over to the shop and will start cutting. Mind you I am going to be getting the copper unions for the steam wands and a couple caps. The coil is for the sparging coil, four inch tri clamp and the two ferrules for the lid. One inch copper for the jacket fill and drain. The stainless sheet is off to the right of the photo.

I forgot to give you the element fitting. I will have to just solder it in after if need be. What do you think about a water seal for the lid?would need 4 wing nut clamps to hold it secure but using water as a seal...
