watcha paying for fuel today?

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

The trouble with using corn for western countries to have 'cheap' fuel by using arable farmland to provide fuel means that poor nations lose their corn used for food and consequently starve even more-so than they do now.

It's a very difficult equation we are looking at. :(

I hear it's been a few years since any big corn ethanol plants were built. The price of corn has already gone up so much that the cost effectiveness is disappearing.

I'm surprised sugar is still the price it is.

I would have thought that it's price would have risen along with the price of oil.

There is a rumour going around that you can make ethanol with it.

i hear the US military is using over 20 gal of fuel per soldier per day in Iraq, whereas in Vietnam, Korea and WWII the average was less than 2 gal per soldier per day. and the last time i checked, those gallons were 95% diesel - for generators, trucks and humvees.

i checked my mileage book - last year i paid US$2.839/gallon on this day; today sign read US$4.869/gallon for diesel.

UJ - when you say no large scale corn ethanol plants have been built recently - what do you mean? are you referencing output volume? or do you mean a plant that uses just corn to produce ethanol? i ask because we have one in the process of being fitted out in my area (machinery being set up), with building construction finished earlier this year.

Must be from Cumberland, Courtney area....?

I am curious about what they will be for a "sugar".

From what I've heard new construction of these has stopped. I'm not saying none are in current construction, but from what I understand the price of corn is quickly pricing itself out of the "cheap fuel" market. And since corn/maize is a subsidized crop here in the States, many farmers have dropped other crops in favor of corn the last 2 years which is raising prices for other produce.

I was disgusted yesterday when I paid $4.20 for cheap gas! It is $5.00 for diesel now and I am looking into a freakin' scooter to drive around. Sonsabitches! How the heck can they keep raising the prices like this. I mean, if they did it over time then we could get used to it and start buying smaller vehicles or whatnot.

I know your pain about the dramatic increase over such a short period of time. I was just talking with my lady friend about the fact that in 10 years it has gone up 500%!

I deleted an email a few months ago that wanted to sell me a $48 kit that enables vehicles to burn water as fuel...

Now,

I'm going to get a high-powered microscope, take my hard drive apart & see if I can locate that email address... :)

Prices haven't gone up in about a week here. I guess they're getting ready for the annual Summer increases.

Been ppl stealing used vegi oil for a LONG time. Most ppl do not realize that if you take it out of the dumpster, you ARE stealing it, even if you talk with the restaurant manager and get his OK. If it goes into the grease dump, it BELONGS to whomever setup that dumpster, it is no longer property of the restaurant.

The only legal way to get it, is to provide your own containers, 55 gallon barrels, dumpsters, or have the kitchen staff put it back into cubes that you pick back up. I like to get it put back into cubes, and pick up each week. That way, it does not get rain in it, which has to be dried out. But nothing pisses me off more than heading on a bi weekly trip to some of my better restaurants, to find that even though they put 35-40 gallons of hi quality into my barrels, someone has siphoned out 95% of what was there (and usually leave the lid off, so there is a dead bird and some trash in it :x !!! )

The price has now officially gone up $0.40 in the last month here to $4.30 and I am officially getting a motorcycle that gets around 70mpg. I can't do it any longer and the amount that I will save in gas for my car I am going to be paying towards insurance, payment and gas for the cycle.

Just bought 87 at $4.57/gal or $1.18/L. I know you litre people have been paying more for a while, it just hurts to have us paying this all of a sudden. It literally went up a dollar in two months!

Who cares about fuel prices?
Look what I just bought.
Takes me 80 km on a charge of 20 kWh. Charged overnight from a 230V 16 A socket.
Ill still need a petrol car for longer trips, but this one will be perfect for commuting and shopping.

Yes, I didn't realise that there was a commericially avaliable electric car until a couple of months ago. A French car scares me a little, but I've found a friendly forum on the Internet, and Renault are quite common here in Sweden.

I saw Regular/95 being sold for SEK 13.99/Litre today. All time high I think. Equals AUD 2.40, Euro 1.50, USD 2.35
Diesel is even more.

$2.20NZD for 95 atm.
Sucks a lot - but I looked at 1.76 euro/L.... ouch.... mega ouch... (euro is worth like... (3?) times as much as the NZD)

Yep, I was astonished to see the price of fuel in Europe. Almost made me feel that Australian prices were OK. ALMOST!!!

About $1.70 a litre in the bush here. I'm nearly 70 but another motor bike seems good.

Trike?

And we bitch about fuel prices here, but we still have some of the cheapest fuel prices on earth.

Though I gotta say, the sooner fuel prices go up the sooner we will start driving much more efficient cars, and using them a lot more wisely. I love driving around in nice fast cars as much as any man, but we gotta face the facts, it was fun while it lasted but that era is just about over.

It's only about over for the ones who aren't in the upper financial tiers. Which I think is gonna cause a whole nother form of class envy. In the US at least, a poor man can't afford a hybrid or electric car, you gotta stick with gas cars and pay the higher fuel prices. I still think Hydrogen is viable with a little more research and development behind it. Gonna be an interesting ride anyway.
