Good Learning Experience!

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Good Learning Experience!

Post by Beerswimmer »

I had my first run, a turbo wash that I made before I knew any better. I started by racking just a tad less than 20L into my pot, hooked everything up and turned on the heat. Then walked away for a half hour. That's when I realized I had the hoses exactly bass-ackwards, and that the thermometer wasn't working. Oh well! I ran it anyway and really paid attention to what was coming out. I threw the first 200ml into a lantern and kept about 7 pints total. I could have run more, but I figured it was good enough. I turned it off, cleaned it, fixed was wasn't right and now have some rum going through it.

Here's the mess:

And here's the first batch:

All in all a great and safe learning experience!

Cheers!

It's purty.

IMO. I think your jars could have been a little smaller.

Good luck sorting out your batch.
