Crazy postal cost

I have been posting parrots to north America, Canada, & Australia. The cost to post to North America/Canada is approx $35, the cost for me to post within Australia was aprox $20, both prices include the cost of the carboard postpack.
Today I posted one to Queensland and was told the cost was now $33 as it is now priced by volume(the size of the box) not by weight. Yet when posting to America/Canada it is priced by weight, which means that there is only $2 difference to fly an item half way round the world, against interstate postage within Australia. I can't figure that one out.

I have had this happen before. An item that was x price at one post office, was suddenly nearly 2x at another one a couple of weeks later. Went back to the first one, and asked them about it, and they showed me the way it is calculated (partly volume, partly weight), and the other PO was wrong.

Might be worth double checking, maybe trying a different PO.

It is possible that AusPost have changed pricing recently, I have not sent anything for a couple of months.

OZ post have just changed their costing method. This was the same PO.

i looked up the rates on this side of the water, and domestic was ~$10 u.s. for a box that would fit a parrot. all 50 states. but the same box, same weight, to get to you on the top side of the world was $54 u.s. they got you by the short ones. cob
