Tomato Paste vs. Sauce

A common first wash to make is tomato paste, sugar, water and yeast. I was wondering if anyone knew why tomato paste is recomended over tomato sauce. I was at the grocery store today and was reading the nutrition facts labels and noticed that Low Salt Hunts Tomato Sauce is just watered down Hunts Tomato Paste. A rough calculation was that the the sauce was 1/3rd as concentrated as the paste. Of course depending on what's on sale that day, the sauce may or may not be 1/3rd the cost of the paste.

Any insights into the benefits of paste over sauce would be appreciated.

when i was first told about using tomatoes. It was canned tomato juice.Then later run across a feller usin tomatoe sause.I started usin paste when store was out of the juice and sause and paste was all they had . lol been usin it ever since

It is a good nutrient to the yeast.

I think either will work the same. I purchase the tomato paste because it is usually sold in the smaller can and I can toss the empty can in the trash. Using a portion of the tomato sauce just clutters the fridge. Plus, I thought tomato sauce generally cost more per volume due to the larger volume and higher shipping/handling costs incurred by the distributor.

takes up alot less space in the pantry as well.
